Bezos offers NASA $2 billion in exchange for moon mission contract

Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos on Monday offered to cover  $2 billions of dollars of NASA costs in exchange for a contract to build a lunar lander to land astronauts on the moon.

In an open letter to the NASA Administrator, Jeff Bezos said: 
'Blue Origin is committed to building a future where millions of people live and work in space to benefit the Earth. We are convinced that, to advance America’s future in space, NASA must now quickly and assuredly return to the Moon. NASA has the opportunity to again inspire a whole new generation of scientists, engineers, and explorers.'
'Blue Origin will bridge the HLS budgetary funding shortfall by waiving all payments in the current and next two government fiscal years up to $2B to get the program back on track right now. This offer is not a deferral, but is an outright and permanent waiver of those payments. This offer provides time for government appropriation actions to catch up. '

NASA in April awarded Elon Musk’s SpaceX with a sole $2.89 billion contract to build the next crewed lunar lander under its Human Landing Systems program.

Part of me is excited about all of the advances in space technology.

Another, rapidly growing, part of me wishes that we would leave something sacred and natural, or for exploration instead of exploitation  How long until we have litter from Amazon boxes on the moon?
