What trailer did you watch?

The trailer looks good, but imo this film will probably have some problems. One, like Nightmare Alley (huge ensemble cast...which is 99% white...more than a Wes Anderson film), this film is going to be seen as kind of problematic. It's about the last duel..which is over a rape accusation...but the initial summary of the film made it sound like they try and make it a bit of a mystery over whether the accusation is true or not. Parts of film twitter were already side-eying this project even before it began, especially as Ben Affleck and Matt Damon partially rewrote the original script (which was by Nicole Holofcener). Two men (even if they are good screenwriters) coming in and tweaking an award winning woman's script about rape is...not a great look...especially if the film spins it as if "is she telling the truth".

Jodie deserves better imo, but at least she's playing Josephine Bonaparate in Ridley's next film.

Jodie Comer is coming for that Oscar!

I feel like her Oscar is going to be for that Josephine Bonaparte film next year.

Yeah, you're probably right.

I wasn't commenting on critical acclaim or accolades for Gaga. I have no interest in that.

I will never understand people coming to a Gaga forum to say they are not interested in Gaga.

Gaga, on the other hand, is very much unaffected.

Yes, exactly, Gaga's possible nomination for Best Actress is totally unaffected by this movie, because she's not in it, and the Best Actress category is not really related to the Best Picture or Best Director. In fact, Best Actress wins have often come from movies that didn't even have any other major category nominations.

They aren't just good screen writers hun. That's just like saying Gaga is just a good lyricist. They are Oscar winning screen writers.

Also it's just a trailer we haven't even seen the movie. I mean, we haven't even seen a trailer for Gaga's movie.

True, they are amazing, but from a superficial viewpoint going in and heavily changing a woman's screenplay...a woman who is also amazing (she was nominated for an Academy Award)...on such a sensitive topic is going to to be meat for film twitter/film journalists.  Film journalists get especially vicious around Oscar time and love, love, love to tear into subjects like this and rip it apart.  For all we know, Nicole wanted Matt and Ben to edit her script but...that I wouldn't be shocked if film journos create controversy anyway (even if it's unfair) because there was defn. some grumblings by them on twitter when this project was in pre-production.

LMAO I swear film twitter will create controversy out of nothing 90% of the time...there's always some new drama...and the sad thing is film journos from reputable outlets will be a big part of it 50% of the time. So if they are given some actual material—no matter how minor or even if the person is okay with it (e.g. Nicole)—I can see them turning rabid.

Honestly it's a bit annoying they keep getting caught up on minor drama and ignore/minimize actual issues like David O. Russell continuing to work with the best and brightest stars. I still can't believe how stacked his next cast is despite his repeated abusive behavior (and the fact that his own niece filed assault charges against him).

Even if there was competition, it would be for Scott and Driver since they're involved in both films. Scott would need to think about which he submits for Best Director and Driver for Best Actor. But Driver seems to be supporting Damon in this film so he could simply submit this in Supporting and Gucci in Lead.

Gaga, on the other hand, is very much unaffected. As for Best Picture, yes I don't see the Academy nominating both Duel and Gucci but I think the critics and GP are way more interested in Gucci if you ask me. It's already topping early Oscar predictions.

Variety has her as their #1 Best Actress contender. https://variety.com/feature/2022-oscars-best-actress-predictions-1235021150/
