Melech 9,900
The British still are culturally more similar to Canada, Australia, and US than Europe. We Anglo countries have always been there for each other when the going gets tough (friendly since the War of 1812). English speaking countries have been continuously liberal and democratic longer than either France and Germany. Britain was the only major European country than remained unconquered by by Napoleon and Hitler when they tried to take over the continent, besides Russia. Forget the Roman empire? David Cameron wants to change the EU ... This guy has no restraint. Does he really think his country will impose its rules to other 26 ? We're not here for a unique commun market. He did not understand the logic of the European Union in seeing things from an economic perspective. The European Union is not just there to strengthen the UK economy ... English : http://www.guardian....endum-live-blog French : http://www.lemonde.f...20960_3214.html German : http://www.sueddeuts...er-eu-1.1580763 What a selfish point of view. Especially since the country has never given more money in Europe than it receives, unlike many other nations. In this period of crisis, populism/nationalism is really disgusting. Blame Europe is so easy when you can not manage your own economy ... :sweep: yep right, hollande and merkel won't agree with him

craig 680
After Camerons speech I think the same. UK is alone with his position. Maybe some Nordic countries too. Smaller countries that are doing well may not be enthusiastic about submerging their identity further in a tighter union.GermanFrance need other northern countries to play a role, or they will be stuck with PIGS-type countries as partners. If Canada and UK can offer asymetical rights (or opt outs) within a federal system to Quebec and Scotland, surely Europe can continue to do it for Britain within the EU. craig 680
what's your stance on scottish independence, out of curiosity? I hope the UK stays together. As a Canadian, people of English-Sottish descent are seen as one ethnicity here. Quebec separatists held and lost 2 referendums (1980 and 1995) - and they speak another language. So Britain should be able to accommodate a Scottish minority with a federal system that allows some local autonomy. Divide Canada are were're all weakened relative to US. Divide UK and you're all weakened relative to EU.

NIKE 275
my political view is that no matter how many countries there are, they should all be required to function under the control of a global government community that overseas the globe
