The Television Academy announced today their nominations for the 2021 Primetime Emmy Awards, and Disney+ was very much present, with 5 nominations for The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, 12 for Hamilton, 23 for WandaVision and 24 for The Mandalorian.

However, Black is King, a musical film and visual album directed, written, and executive produced by Beyoncé, got zero nominations despite critical acclaim. It also had a high budget and was one of the first original titles of Disney+. Beyoncé has had seven nominations throughout the years, thanks to her Super Bowl performance, Lemonade and Homecoming, but is yet to win her first Emmy.

So, what happened?

I personally believe that the release date was the main problem (the film will be a year old in two weeks). She should've released it near the Grammy deadline so she could snatch awards in both ceremonies by being present in the voters' minds.

Someone posted on the Emmy noms thread asking how many did Beyoncé get and I reacted with LMAO thinking it was a joke since she always gets a lot of Grammy noms but he was asking for real. :air:

she didn't push it at all so I'm not surprised. also its not the kind of movie gets nominated at the Emmys, its a very artsy music film, I can't remember the last time music films got nominated.

I thought Black Is King was released like 2 years ago or something :rip: I have yet to see it. I always forget.

I don't really care for Black is King the album but oh my god, the film is one of the most gorgeous things I've ever watched. Really stunning.

Did she submit it? Lol

but if she did I can see why it didn’t splash. Categorically, it’s a hard fit for what the emmy’s awards. It just doesn’t fit nicely anywhere unlike something like Mare of Easttown very clearly fitting in drama, for instance.

Yea lemonade got 4 nominations. But that was an actual cultural reset that just could not be ignored. It was a milestone album. They would’ve been nuts to not nominate it.
