Adoption is great but surrogacy? Misogynistic af tbh

Talk to mothers who did it, it's traumatic

No one bares a child for nine months inside and then gives it away happily just for the money

I’ve only heard and read horrible stories about surrogacy. This is definitely not a win like people are making it out to be. Men using women’s bodies to fulfill their selfish need for children doesn’t sit right with me.

A symbolic, feel-good gesture to distract from all the damage they’re still doing

Would you prefer they f__k the women, abandon them and abandon the children when they don't "love" the women anymore. That's not selfish at all.

Governments can do bad and good things without them being connected. This is very consistent with long-term Israeli politics

So is genocide :ohwell:

What does being a deadbeat dad have to do with surrogacy? You really thought you made a point.

The real discussion is the ethics and historical misogyny behind this practice. It’s been seen time and time again that poor women are usually used as surrogates and exploited in many ways. No one is entitled to a child, and it is a privilege. If there is a way to completely ensure that women are not exploited when being surrogates, sure, I might be totally on board. But as of right now, it’s done more harm for these mothers than good.

I think that's a generalization. Yes, there are some cases but that's usually because they have exploited into doing it.

A lot of women love being a surrogate because they give couples (including other women) the opportunity to have a child together. You'll be surprised how many women like the experience of being pregnant but don't want to raise a child.

In a way, it's misogynistic to assume every woman wants to have a child and is automatically attached to them. Many surrogates are aware there is a hormonal attachment at birth but are rational enough to know this is somebody else's child.

I understand your POV  ( and yes it may seem opportunistic and misogynistic) but it's a job that only a woman can perform. They are setting the price and terms of the way they are treated while carrying. It might even be empowering them to be assertive in negotiations for anything outside of surrogacy. That said I really don't think every woman is right for surrogacy it's a toll on mental and physical health. But is it any different than say women in the p_rn industry or even strippers. Not all want to become a famous **** star. Some are there because they want pay for school and develope all sorts of skills outside of those types of jobs to obtain better jobs in the future.

I'm not opposed for women of any social economical standing to make money any way they can but they should definitely know what they are getting themselves into. Also by creating this law where it is legal it can help women because now the stigma is lessened and they can seek help if they feel threatened or enter into some weird non-enforceable surrogacy contract.

Lastly I want to add is that surrogacy was already legal. It is now legal for gay men to use those services. This thread isn't about surrogacy as a whole.

I know of many families that used a surrogate to have their children. One of my college friends used a surrogate for her first child, as she had 11 miscarriages prior to that. She is now using a family friend for her second child. At least in the US, is is extremely expensive and also lots of legal things with it. I understand the concern over women needing to be treated fairly that become surrogates. However, this can be an over generalization. There are many women that do this because they want to provide a family to others. (And don’t get me started on they should just adopt. Yes adoption is great, but it’s another thread.)

Hope it'll be accessible for foreign LGBT couples, Israel is much closer to Europe than the U.S.
