She's always had bold visuals, over-the-top theatrics, and emphasis on technology. Changing eras and aesthetics isn't the same as changing identity or brand.

Gaga changed her brand so much to the point where she quite literally has entirely different fanbases — from the locals who say “I loved her in A Star Is Born, she looks so much better without makeup and crazy outfits!!!“ to the gays who beg for another RedOne produced bop and can't name 3 songs on Cheek to Cheek.

Billie has had the same aesthetic (and same music style, and same producer) since she was 16. One (or ten) photoshoots for a fashion magazine mean nothing.

Laughing Out Loud GIF by memecandy

"flop single after flop single" with over 850M streams for all singles on Spotify alone :ladyhaha: . Don't make facts out of your personal opinion.

Also, saying "pre-ordering albums is stupid", but doing so with Gaga albums (most probably, I mean, you're not on GGD without a reason :trollga: ) is kinda pretentious :hor: .

OT: Good, now all the fake fans can jump off the hype train while we continue to bop to her music :hor: . Same happened with Gaga during BTW and ARTPOP era and look where we're at now: Thriving alongside a legend :legend: .

I hope the album turns out to be a masterpiece and the Vinyls will be sold out :fan: .

Well none of the singles got any traction...streams are what they are but that doesn't mean the song is gonna do well. Take Ed's new song...tons of streams...flop reception

I dont even pre-order Gagas albums...I take Joanne as a perfect example I'm glad I didn't :awkney:

Stream my new single, 💜"Heartbeat"💜, on Spotify!

Source?

Your Power was on the Hot 100 for only 6 weeks and Lost Cause for only 3 weeks. NDA barely premiered and it’s already falling free on Apple Music. I don’t agree with the misogyny that’s being displayed on this thread but come on, the girl is severely underperforming and it’s alarming how it’s all being played out.

Lol people in here talking about misogyny. It’s the fact that people are bored of the whispering shtick and that’s why this album of sky falling the charts compared to her debut.

She’s following a cookie-cutter pop star formula of changing her hair and appearance for your new album and it’s not working for her.

I think it a mix of couple of things:

- The streaming era makes pop stars famous very soon and then breaks them very soon, there’s no longevity nowadays thanks to the internet and how fast-paced things go.

- The whispering shtick is just not sticking anymore, every new artist does it now and it’s boring (I was particularly never a fan of it).

- I think her appearance and vibe changed in a way that doesn’t appeal to her young audience (edgy-and-rebel to Marylin Monroe). Her fans were probably expecting a new look for her edgy-rebel vibe (like changing the green for blue, idk) and she ended up doing a complete visual rebranding and as a result alienated her young core fanbase.

She’s underperforming cause she was on top of the world during her debut cause she was new.

She still will do solid in sales and streams, sell out her tour, etc. all while putting out music she wants and not just to please the general public.

Billie has NEVER been mainstream in the sense of following a formula to make hits.

That’s why her rise and success was so great and applauded.

I’m a huge fan and I know she’ll continue to be successful even if it’s not with the same support from the entire world.

Being on the Hot 100 for 6 weeks is not “underperforming“. And I promise you they were not aiming for a multi week number one with a ballad that they released on a Thursday.

I'm also not sure why we are even talking about Billboard charts when it comes to Billie Eilish. “lovely,“ her second biggest hit after “bad guy,“ peaked at #70 (seventy!) on the Hot 100, yet it‘s one of the most-streamed songs in Spotify history, up there with “7 rings“ and “Shallow.“

I’m begging you to wait and see how her album does in like 2 weeks.

Meant the singles, which are an indicator that the album could flop too

The best thing is probably to be a less known artist, still big enough that you're known in the right communities, you have your fans, you earn enough to make it profitable, and nobody outside of this cares enough to start hating on you or anything

I can tell you, jealousy, hate and tearing down exists at any level of fame. The only difference is the amount of people, fans and  critics. Local and world wide hate are totally proportional. And this  lower amount of people is enough to get at you, for better or worse.

Billie has every right to change anything and everything any way she wants.  I applaud her for doing what she wants.

Loved her then, love her now.

I live outside the space time continuum.

Yes but I think there's a certain impact when the whole world has their eyes on you and fans and media start bullying you constantly and there isn't a day without some new article criticizing you or some new controversy on Twitter. At least when you're smaller you can escape it more often. I think in any field actually, and any job, even in a small job where you have some toxic coworkers or some bosses who don't like everything you do, at least you get a break from it when you're not at work. When you're that big, the critics are just always there.

@Oriane True. But otoh in the local world, you will know your enemies and critics by name very fast. Gossips are poison. The whole world might be anonymous and most of celebrities just have to get rid of their socmeds accounts, avoid reading papers or watch tv and that's it. Locally, It's very hard to avoid confrontations.
