My guy, changing our water conservation practices is literally a long term solution. It’s not the only one, but it’s going to be a major one going forward. Not just for California either. This is something that a lot of Western stares are going to have to address.

Desalination is the elephant in the room that nobody seems to want to acknowledge. Western states need to start investing in this kind of technology to try to find ways to mitigate the ecological effects and make it more affordable. It has so much potential but because it’s not used very often the advancements are just not being made.

That’s just a super idealist approach. It would work in theory.. but I certainly will not be changing my water consumption habits just because a government official tells me to lol

I wouldn’t call it idealistic because the government can most definitely monitor household water consumption and I wouldn’t be surprised if a couple decades down the line they start enforcing it more seriously if droughts become more severe.

It would really depend on how the situation unfolds but while one way of looking at it is the government keeping water from you, another way of looking at it would be the government ensuring everyone is getting access to the same amount of water. Then it doesn’t sound like overreach at all. It’s a finite resource we’re talking about here.

They can probably start with conserving water at all the golf courses before asking regular people. For example:
