Honestly, I’m so over bitter old artists dragging new artists for referencing their work. It should be the ultimate praise. It’s not “copying” it’s quite literally paying respect to things before you. Madonna spent the entire first half of her career referencing classic film….. her music video for “material girl” was basically a shot by shot remake of diamonds are a girls best friend …….. why doesn’t she understand these artists are referencing her in the same way?

Out of all the most famous moments of her career, this is one that she definitely doesn't need to keep reminding us of, it was shocking at the time and is still somewhat shocking today and is one of the most legendary moments in pop culture, right up there with Superbowl Nipplegate. Her insecure need to remind us shows that she's terrified of her legacy being forgotten which would explain all her shady pettiness towards younger, newer artists for years. The fact she can't see the differences in context between then and now and makes it all about her just speaks to narcissism. And by the way, even when being referenced by the creator of this moment, Xtina's kiss is still left out and forgotten, the focus is always on Britney. Poor Xtina just can't catch a break, even in one of the most famous pop culture moments in history!

Well, in a way she wasn't that interested in those antics because she wanted to cement her legacy as a vocalist. And she achieved that.

I'd take a legacy like Xtina's, that may not be as massive as Madonna's, but it's pure vocal talent.
