I'm assuming the CDC hasn't issued similar guidance bc the variant isn't as prevalent here in the US yet?

I've still been wearing masks in stores just because the policies here are inconsistent and I don't mind wearing them for short shopping trips. But I will continue going out to eat (for the first time in a year and a half), seeing acquaintances, and similar maskless activities until the CDC tells me not to or it's obvious there are issues in my surrounding area.

My therapist has said, and I agree: I'm less worried about the small risk you have contracting Covid being vaccinated, than I am the mental impact if you don't go out and enjoy yourself right now, because we don't know if and when it's going to get really bad again.

People have been isolated at home for more than a year for the betterment of other people. In a country where the vaccine is available to everyone for free, if you are choosing not to get vaccinated, that is on you. Additionally, WHO is not the CDC. If you are high risk still or not vaccinated, continue to isolate yourself and reduce going out while those who are not high risk can continue with their lives.

I'm not about to be made to be feeling guilty for people in different circumstances holding me to their standards. Get off your high horse.

!!!

I stopped wearing a mask and have strictly followed all CDC guidance since the beginning. I'm just at the point where if you aren't getting vaccinated (at least in the US), then it's on you now. It's readily available everywhere you go and that's really all there is to it. The virus in my state has continued to steadily decline and we are averaging <70 cases daily compared to a peak of 6,400+.

No vaccine is 100% effective, and no one should be under any illusions that they are. People cant still catch and die from viruses that they are vaccinated against, it's just that vaccinations greatly decrease one's chances of it.

If vaccinated people still have to wear masks, then what was the point of getting the vaccine? The position implied by wearing continuing to wear masks post-inoculation looks, at its essence, to be strikingly similar to the position that vaccines are ineffective and there is no reason to get them. Which is the thrust of the anti-vax movement the WHO is supposedly trying to overcome.

I really hope at least Pfizer and Astra protect enough against the Delta variant and we don't get more powerful variants anymore :bradley:

That being said, wear your masks and stop being brats about them :enigma: We're all tired but the less we follow guidelines the more this will last

Pfizer & Moderna are like 80% effective against the Delta variant. I thankfully got Pfizer but I still wear a mask. The thing that pisses me off though is despite being vaccinated I still wear a mask to protect other people from my germs but other Americans refuse to do the same because if the mask is there to protect others from your germs & not you from theirs then it has no use cause they’re selfish af.

I don't care if people wear masks or not anymore. The policies about wearing a mask in my state are so inconsistent now and everyone's just annoyed with it. Granted I still wear my mask at work and some grocery stores, I stopped wearing it as often. It's nice to see people's faces again!

I never really stopped wearing the masks either. I don't mind other people not wearing them (as long as they're vaccinated) but just to be safe I like to wear one every day. I still take them off when I'm eating/drinking and if I feel a bit hot outdoors (it's getting hot and humid right now).

Spoiler

I also have a bajillion boxes of masks I need to get through :zilla:

The WHO has horrible messaging. “You cannot feel safe” even though you virtually won’t be in the hospital for Covid. Why would anyone get vaccinated if they heard that? What are their thresholds for stopping masking for the vaccinated? Especially if so many people are refusing to get it. What is the end goal? Is it so hard to give advice for this if you’re going to tell vaccinated people to wear masks with no end in sight? I get that the WHO is international, and low income countries barely have vaccines. Many countries rely on vaccines that mostly just make symptoms less, so it makes to keep masking in many places. It’s just the messaging which is horrible and fear-based.

The CDC already made their mask decision based on data of efficacy against Delta. It won’t change in the US, people won’t listen. At this point, any unvaccinated person has made a personal decision to take the risk, the vaccinated are safe. I feel bad for the very immune compromised though, but Covid is here to stay. I suggest they stay extra careful until anti-virals are available hopefully this year, maybe it mutates into something less lethal by then. 🤞

Covid will not go away. We made the decision for it to run rampant throughout the world, we can’t act like we’re going to eradicate it soon. At this point, with the vaccines, a return to social distancing or restrictions will make any kind of economical and mental issue much worse than a virus that has an effective vaccine.

My city has a high vaccination rate and single digit cases. I’m not wearing a mask, but if you are in a place with very high cases, you may consider it. Totally fine to wear one if you want, but when it’s unnecessary to use one, it’s ok to take it off too.

that’s like listening to a celebrity and voting for a specific law or person simply because the celebrity is telling you too???

Wasn’t that the entire last year?? People taking their sociopolitical cues from detached celebrities who are just protecting images and making money :laughga:

I’ve still been wearing mine for the most part. I don’t want people to think I’m a trump supporter. :ally:

I have never been anti-mask or anti-vaccine. Long term use of a mask in places of transportation and healthcare makes total sense, but people need to stop trying to normalize masks lmao. It’s such a virtue signal. This isn’t normal and you shouldn’t be ok with humans wearing masks for the rest of time, which is the case if you expect humans to wear masks while COVID is around. COVID is not going away. It will have seasonal spikes like the seasonal flu. Mask usage would also make sense during those times.

The real topic should be rethinking what we eat or how we can totally separate future responses from whatever political climate our countries may be in. Trump and the Republicans totally ****ed the United States’ response to COVID and it will have long lasting effects. Anti-mask and anti-vax culture is deeply rooted now and it’s all thanks to those buffoons.

REALITY

Some of y'all are really dramatic. Are some of y'all that insecure as to flaunt around the idea of not wearing a mask just because you're "tired" of COVID? We're all tired of COVID. And maybe if people took these guidelines more seriously in the beginning, we wouldn't be in this situation.

I still wear a mask in public in places with a lot of people (i.e., malls, supermarkets, etc.); however, I don't wear a mask with other people who are fully vaccinated that I know personally.
