ThisGuyTony 29,042
“Newly-filed court documents show The Pokémon Company has now reached a $300k settlement with the pair, who are described as having stolen "trade secrets" by snapping "illicit pictures from an unreleased strategy guide"”

Cybikitty 1,580
sheeeesh i remember when this happened, 150k each is enough to ruin their entire lives
Kadikaado 4,302
lol Just imagine if the same thing happened to music industry. lol But anyway, Nintendo being pressed because they did dirt to Sword Shield is ridiculous. What's the point of making a game of the series and not adding every pokémon there is to the game? I thought they made it to sell DLCs, but not even DLCs added every pokémon to the OFFICIAL GAME. I can understand that a side game wouldn't have every pokémon, but the main game in the franchise MUST HAVE EVERY POKÉMON AVAILABLE!! I am authistic, so don't be offended if I make a mess sometimes. littlepotter 74,292
These situations conflict me because it's obviously imbalanced, 300k is nothing to Nintendo but probably more than these 2 men will make in 10+ years... but then if there's no punishment it will encourage leaking, so idk. chaeri pls

Yeah exactly, this situation is more of a PSA to other leakers, rather than to punish these guys. Idk what they expected to happen tho, it’s not their property, it’s considered confidential, etc

bionic 41,815
One of the defendants was discovered to have been employed at LSC Communications, the company which had printed the Pokémon Sword and Shield strategy guide. The other defendant was identified as the individual who had then received photos of the guide via a group chat and posted them onto Discord, making them public. I can understand the first getting fined because of the nature of their job, but the second one getting a fine is totally insane. I can see why they agreed to the settlement but I can't see that having stood up in court buy bionic
Benji 20,113
I’m confused how that sum was agreed, proving a specific monetary loss would be near impossible for Nintendo. I think the guys should’ve chanced it in court and not settled. I also feel for the guy who just posted them in a chat, in my eyes he is not liable for what he receives and shares. It’s not his job to protect it.

They most likely looked to stuff like lost wages, marketing materials, etc.

If the entire settlement isn't public, of course. I can't be free if my hands are tied... 🧟♀️👰🏻
