InstantDejavu 571
Tomorrow (June 23th) the national German football team (Die Mannshaft) will be up against the national Hungarian team in the 2021 European Championship. The game takes place in Germany, Munich at the Allianz Arena. Initial reports said the Allianz Arena was to be lit up in pride colours to out their displeasure with Hungary approving a discriminating law against LGBTQ+ people. They did the same thing with the Arena in the past to show support to the community during pride. However, UEFA, the Union of European Football Associations, has REFUSED the arena to be lit up in these colours. They claim this is a politcal matter and that football should be free of politics. Which is a bit ironic since players have been kneeling on one knee to support the Black Lives Matter movement which UEFA thinks is fine. So what's the difference between discriminating against black people or against LGTBQ+ people? UEFA finds itself in hot water as a lot of people are left outraged. Manuel Neuer, the goalkeeper of the German national football team wore pride-colours before to out support in the team's name. Many are wondering if he will wear it again at the game tomorrow. It's also 'funny' to mention UEFA has tweeted in the past about being inclusive: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10219518667779842&set=p.10219518667779842&type=3 Hungary issued a statement saying it's "dangerous" to be mixing politics with pleasure. Messy? Hypocrite? You call it. * to be clear, I'm fine with people supporting BLM but I don't get why supporting LGBTQ+ would be any different! Do you think they're interested in doing that? Opening the door to diversity means opening the door to questions about LGBTQ participation in sports, including trans people, and that means changing our conception of how we divide professional sports between the sexes. They won't open that Pandora's box, and maybe they think they can avoid it for eternity but they won't be able to avoid it for much longer. Former First Lady of the United States. It's basically your big boss saying "you don't matter". I guess money talks.........

Yes they have a long way to go but its coming off as “well then they shouldnt have it either” and youve made it like five times now difference is you look on the field you can see black players. There arent almost any openly out gay players. Yes, internationally, gay acceptance is not where it should be. And yes, internationally, anti-blackness is a huge issue. But please stop saying what you’re saying in the way you’re saying it because it does come off a bit insensitive. Maybe when more players come out and general attitudes switch on sexuality itll be more acceptable. culturally its more acceptable to be black than gay. But black, gay people will always have to deal with racism from white people and homophobia from their own community. Lgbt issues reaching the political stage are much much more recent than racial ones.

No and I won't stop making that argument cause it's true. Allowing one thing but not the other is not okay. There are plenty of gay footballers. What ar eyou even trying to say. Quite disguisting imo.
SlaeUrAnus 16,111
This shows we still have a lot of fighting to do. How can UEFA refuse when they are trying to stamp out homophobia in football? This decision baffles me. In my messy era.

Pennywise 36,080
Nothing in this world can be separate from politics and to think otherwise is, at best, naivety; and at worst, willful ignorance. So long ggd, it was nice while it lasted.

First, you said you don’t want to be friends with middle easterners and now this What does BLM have to do with this? Players should protest but don’t diminish racial issues if you are white. COME ON GAYS!!
