It's absolutely mind boggling and disgusting how people still try to say global warming and climate change isn't real. I'm especially disgusted by the group of Canadians who deny it's real and would rather dwell on continuing to drill in the oil sands and create more pipelines to send oil through precious ecosystems that need to be preserved rather than focus on creating and searching for cleaner greener means of energy and to create energy.

There’s only so much individual humans can do, it’s corporations and the sociopathic execs who pin the blame on individuals. They are the vermin.

Some countries don't care, the big polluants, China, United States, India, what a shame. It means nothing if some small countries make changes. Morocco is one small country that's apparently very good with changing their economy to be more eco friendly, but morocco alone or another country, means nothing, if the US, China or India keep polluting. And can you blame this on just governments? I have a feeling no. There are poverty in some countries where they have no choice but to destroy the environnement to make a living... I think money destroyed this Earth and Im not willing to go anywhere else than this planet. I just hate how we created economy, something man-made and we value it more than Earth. It just sucks so much and I feel like I can do nothing at all, I have to watch this beautiful planet burn and suffer & maybe die with it we suck as creatures, we really are very evil and selfish

bestie nothing is safe if yellowstone erupts, the planet is gonna get covered in so much ash that it will block out the sun causing massive famines probably resulting in the death of billions of people

oh yeah def, if the EU, USA, China and india dont change were ****ed, the fate of the world rest on the ****iest nations to currently exist, the PRC is the greediest and most power hungry government besides the US, India has a horrible corruption problem and is run by fascists (modi), the EU are well... europeans (they are somewhat improving ig) and the USA is run by the elite who only care about their own interests, so yeah were ****ed

And the bad news are...?

We should be celebrating and accelerating it. We must destroy any possibility of the elites enjoying our enslavement and exploitation while we "adjust" in order to keep this planet as "liveable" as it is now for them. Best revenge is to destroy everything they're building with others struggle and misery, and I'm not even talking about ourselves anymore but about exploited/developing countries.

Fact is: they're just making time, it's been a long time since we reached a point of no return and they KNEW, why do you think that now, all of a sudden, Tesla and the Mars colonisation missions/advances are everyday mainstream news? it's their escape plan, and they're selling it to you as "hope" for everybody to buy some time, when what they mean is that THAT will be their new residence, and guess what, you're not on the guestlist, so the best solution is to make sure that humanity will die in here and won't exploit any other planet or race ever again. Enjoy your life and don't hesitate to contribute to our extinction!

Mars isn't an escape plan. That's not how those guys are thinking at all.* They have an expansive view of the human future. I have many issues with Musk and Bezos, but that's not one of them.

Dunno why people are talking about Yellowstone; that has literally nothing to do with climate change (although it would change the climate), and is beyond our current ability to address anyway.

This "point of no return" stuff is a bit melodramatic, and unhelpful -- it suggests that action has become futile. The only thing that's truly irreversible is extinction, and that's already taken many species due to human activity, and will continue to take many more. We should do everything we can to stop that.

* People will ask Musk (e.g.) "Why settle Mars?", and he'll sometimes talk about humanity not having all its eggs in one basket (paraphrasing Bradbury). But, it would be a mistake to think that this is why he wants to go. The real answer is "Because it's there"; and this answer is seldom articulated, because those who feel it already know, and never ask that question. The "backup plan" concept is a kind of rationalization, aimed at those who lack that feeling. But it seems to have backfired a bit, with people misconstruing it as an "escape plan".

As for Mars' actual qualities as an escape from Earth, it has none. It's considerably less hospitable than Antarctica, and will remain so for the foreseeable future. Neither pollution nor even nuclear war on Earth is likely to change that -- whatever we do here, however bad, will be easier to clean up than terraforming Mars.
