Madonna is better than Gaga

I think Madonna is the better and bigger "stereotypical" pop star than Gaga but saying Madonna's artistry is better than Gaga is wrong because that would be an unfair comparison since art is so subjective. 

Madonna is like Gaga and Taylor Swift combined. She had the shock and artistic factor like Gaga but the marketing genius of Taylor Swift. So yes, we can say Madonna is the best pop star and thus, making her better than Gaga in that aspect. Madonna is a strong businesswomen who marketed herself very successfully. 

Gaga is not setting out to be the Queen of Pop like Madonna was trying to achieve. Madonna succeeded in accomplishing what she set out to do. Gaga does not want to be the Queen of Pop nor do I honestly think she has the drive and ambition for it. Madonna in that sense is one of a kind. 

Madonna was a diva who wanted nothing more to get to the top and she succeeded in being the biggest pop star on the planet. Gaga is more serious about her artistry, she does not care about being on top or selling the most albums like Madonna. Like most people of Gaga's generation, she wants to enjoy life and boomers like Madonna are driven by traditional forms of success like money. 

So artistry wise, - no - but pop star wise, Madonna is the Queen.

Madonna never had to exaggerate/embellish her origin story. 

It's all about credibility, something Gaga was trying to capture, something which Madonna had.

You have a solid point. Madonna was THE first mainstream pop gurl, so her impact is one for the books, but I feel this can only be used as an argument for a short period of time as long as Gaga puts as many years under her belt in the music industry as Madonna.

Which leads me back to my original question. Is Gaga's capability and output as an artist at all relevant to her background? Does an artist's "origin story" (are these comic book characters or real people btw?) have an effect on your opinion of their work? It sounds like you're talking out of your ass to me. Gaga's self-creation narrative is very much born of her "origin story." There's no doubt Gaga is talented or has made great work.
