 But being serious, if Gaga released her songs in the 80's like Madonna did, we would've never know what could have happened because we can't time travel. lol

 Back in the old days it was easier to be mainstream.

You cannot compare them. They have peaked in totally different eras. The music industry was not the same. That would be like comparing Gaga to Olivia Rodrigo. It’s a totally different market and cultural landscape.

Yes, its what I noticed, I think she puts a lot of thought into it and it's honestly breathtaking what the results are. I also think the major difference I noticed is that she has more depth overall in her songs than Gaga's... And I only compare the two bcs theyve been compared so much and I think Gaga was inspired by Madonna a lot in her career. I think Gaga has no doubt been very very influential but if we compare I think Madonna is just better, but this is all an opinion and can never be a TRUTH nor a fact

I have nothing but respect for Madonna. There’s a reason why her career is so long and successful: because she’s a tough girl and extremely committed to her art and vision. I’m not implying Gaga has not the same passion but if think about where Madonna came from, her journey was way harder, darker and stressful and yet she fought every damn obstacle. Her work ethic is amazing. Her toughness is incredible. She told the truth when she said her most daring act was sticking around.

Everyone knows that Madonna is a pioneer and trailblazer in the music industry, but they’re just…different. People will argue til they’re blue in the face for both sides, but at the end of the day this is a Gaga forum so expecting an unbiased comparison of the two artists is highly unlikely.

I don’t know if she’s better than Gaga, but anybody who denies Madonna’s impact is a fool. She is a pioneer for women in music. What she’s accomplished, no other woman in the present day has done.

I mean the TRUTH is,

Gaga would not exist without Madonna.

Gaga's story of making it on her own on the LES is... not that impressive when you know her parents were always willing to step in and pay her rent. Madonna stuck off on her own to NYC with something like $3 in her pocket and became a fixture in the underground NYC art & music scene. She is literally iconic and legendary, she did things no one has ever done before or since. That's why it's not fair to compare, because Gaga comes after and benefits off what Madonna did.

Are we pretending Madonna isn't involved in charities as well? Feels weird to bring such a thing up when both women are very much philanthropic.

Outside of the superficial, there's not much there to compare between the two, so it's kind of pointless. The way they approach art and performance couldn't be more different.

No, not at all. It's that Gaga exaggerated that story to seem more "of the streets" when she was never in danger of being homeless or in poverty.
