Also, it's very easy to portray companies as big, bad wolves for asking this of their employees - but I think that's a bit narrow minded. What about on-site catering services, porters, housekeeping staff, building managers and maintenance staff who's employment doesn't just rely on a physical work space but also relies on other workers to be present in that space? If we didn't start going back to offices again then there would be a huge number of people whose jobs would be at risk or simply vanish. 

It's a very privileged position to be in to demand a radical "new normal" for working life, but it actually ignores the working realities of many, many people. The knock-on effects of mass working-from-home would be much greater than the individual daily lives of people who are lucky enough to do so; we are dependent on each other for employment in a vastly interconnected way. I believe we need more flexibility for employees but we can't dismiss the bigger picture - especially when the impact would largely fall on lower earners in essential, but overlooked, roles.

So we should all give in to status quo to protect minority of jobs? I have sympathy for those who would lose out but I don’t have to suffer for them to be employed. Check my privilege, why should I prop up declining industries at my own expense?

That's so dismissive of the reality of other people's lives, it's not the clear-cut issue you seem to think it is and it seems like you don't have a good global view of the situation beyond your personal circumstances.

Every single person in employment relies on other people in order to have a job in the first place: we all prop each other up because in one way or another we provide a service to others, or facilitate the provision of one. We're inherently reliant on other people's employment in order to have our own. God forbid the structures and industry that enables your employment falls apart one day, I'm sure you'd extend more sympathy and critical thinking to the situation then.

You can't simply brush it off as being the "minority of jobs" when it's thousands of real people with real lives of their own who work in public transport, catering, cleaning, supplies, delivery, front-of-house, professional services and so on. It's not just a concept or a faceless percentage. 

I agree that now is a time to really look at how we can improve people's working lives, there definitely needs to be flexibility for employees and massive improvements in work-life balance, but we can't just exclude a whole segment of the work force from that discussion as if there wouldn't be real-life consequences for those people. We can't just callously cut off a huge and vital part of our work-force and economy, it's a delicate issue that needs balance and compromise.

The main reason I do not want t go back to office is my dogs They will be so miserable with me being gone all day. Luckily my job is going to start in Sep a "Hybrid" way of returning back to office. I'm hoping no more than 3 days in office.

People refusing to go back to their office are stupid. If you think corporations are not going to use work from home as an opportunity to outsource employees to counties outside of America (China, India, etc) for far less money, than you are delusional. Remember, corporations don’t care about you!
