If Apple does this, most other smaller companies will do the same or ditch remote completely. Office rent, businesses that support these office workers, transportation systems, downtown business districts, they all need money desperately and lobbyists are going to do their jobs.

I do agree most stuff can be done from work, but people start new jobs, recent grads begin working and need more guidance, networking and creativity blossoms with in-person work. Imo, many companies will do a hybrid, but they would need to have a good system in place for all things to work smoothly. The annoying managers also need to manage “better” in person.

The “new normal” idea of remote work isn’t fake, but it’s naive to think that companies in the US would care enough about their employees and sacrifice many things just so employees don’t have to commute or get an extra hour of sleep, welcome to capitalist America!

good, let me work less so my social life is outside of work. I don't need to treat my coworkers like my "family" - I hate when jobs are like that lol. Always trying to force everyone to bond and get to know each other. Lets just do what we're here to do and go home.

Google have already announced similar plans, so with Apple doing the same like you say I imagine most smaller companies will fall in suit

I work for a mediumish "start up" corporation - we're under 10k employees, but had a huge layoff at the start of 2020 and we're slowly hiring back and then some. They've been pushing our return date later and later, with September being the goal. We were only in office 2 days a week/3 days remote anyway, which was really nice. They sent out employee surveys for remote work and the majority was a mix of fully remote/fully remote but maybe 1-2 days a month in office for meetings and team events (we did a booze cruise two years ago, super fun). Some folks are back in office because they don't have the ability to have a remote setup, which I totally get. I voted for 1-2 days in office a month because I like the idea of catching up with my work friends and a minimal commute. 

There is a benefit to "not fully remote" in the sense of having a couple days spent together out of the month. I'll be interested to see the excuses these companies pull in favor of 5 days in office. If your team performs well and you save money on a commercial lease, why not?

I kinda wish employees would start pushing back not only for remote work, but for more days off/sick days. I would much rather have an in-person office job and have annual 4-5 weeks vacation like Europe, than work remote and only get 2 weeks and no sick days (which is good in the US) but that’s just me. There’s way more problems people should also be talking about imo.

Our office said we have the option to return to the office (or not) however we want, starting in September. I'm going to do 1 day a week just for team-building reasons. I'm definitely more efficient working at home, but I do miss the casual conversations you have more organically in an office. I feel like I don't have any "work friends" any more.

I think this is reasonable. For a lot of companies, you can't maximize success with everyone working remotely.

I actually like the idea of a hybrid work model - my work is proposing 2 or 3 days in and the others working remotely and I'm personally more than happy with it. I love working from home and we've been able to do a lot that way this past year, but there are some times when I'm just desperate for an in-person meeting or to have my colleague sat next to me to check something.

Sounds reasonable. Office working will keep more people in employment than home working and it generates more jobs.

they get some work from home days, but it’s mostly normal
