Let’s not generalize, I agree. I said many not all and every.

Sorry but you did generalize when you said "Black people have always been very racist towards Asian people".

Soft, soothing, and succulent

You’re right, I did. Let me rephrase. Many black people have been violent and racist towards asians. My point still stands. Racism is sometimes deemed ok one way but not the other. There are more levels to racism than many people realize. Does every race get money now for having been a part of a race that was at one point a slave to another race? I’m glad to not be an American so I can see past the bubble from the outside

https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/federal-government-launches-loan-program-for-black-owned-businesses-1.1610838

Canada announces a federally backed loan program (loans ranging as low as $10,000 to as high as $250,000) for black business startups or at least majority black owned

To qualify for the program individuals must have a business number and a business plan

The program hopes to encourage more entrepreneurship among the black community

There may be a dearth of black run business’ in Canada since only 2.9% of its population is black.

I can only speak from my experience and stats I found from the USA but Indian immigrants --overall--are the most educated immigrant racial group here and median income of Indian immigrants here in the USA is $120,000. Maybe it is the same in Canada as well?

Im not sure if the information you said are anecdotal or you know Indian immigrants in the situation you mentioned but from all the minority immigrant groups in the USA, statistically, they need the less help.

https://www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/fact-sheet/asian-americans-indians-in-the-u-s/?menuItem=c2ab7e3a-3b84-4000-8ffc-fcf8809c1173

I think having programs that aim to specifically target Black Canadians is justified as they have the lowest income for immigrants and would benefit from such programs.

It think it may be because most Indian immigrants (at least in my city) are from Punjab one of the more unpriveledged part of India

I think almost all the black individuals live in the Toronto area tbh. Cuz here they are not by any means a small portion of the population but any other city even metros suddenly its hard to find them

Everytime i go to Montreal for example i literally see maybe 10 in an entire weekend :rip:

I don’t see the logic behind the goal of the loan

I kinda get it. They want to give oppurtunities to ppl that historically have faced more uphill battles to success that racial disparities have agravated

But i just dont get why black ppl only specifically. Theres plenty of other minorities that have had simmilar struggles that shouldnt be excluded

Makes me think this is a bit political driven for Trudeau to win some brownie points riding on tbe BLM movement tbh. Hes the type to jump on social trends constantly and u can never tell what his real motives are

Exactly. It feels like a PR move to me given last years media coverage from the states. So they’re hoping to see around a 2.9% raise in black owned business if every. single. black. person were to take the loan and start a business? Seems like a waste of time and money in the name of “true equality”

I also am curious, if the USA has 17% black population how can they expect everything to be equal? 50/50 white and black in workforce, 50/50 representation everywhere?

This isn't about representation, though... it's about accumulating generational wealth. Black people weren't allowed to own property or run businesses up until the last 50 or so years, while families of other races have been able to accumulate wealth and pass it down to their subsequent generations for literally hundreds of years. Just look at what happened to Black Wall Street 100 years ago in Tulsa. They built up a thriving business community and it was terrorized and destroyed by white racists. You cannot expect Black people to catch up unless the government makes a concerted effort to fix the problem.

They complain they aren’t represented enough in general. Not fair that they are represented more than 17% without taking away from the other races. A TV show should be able to feature no main black characters and not be “racist.” But now a days it can’t be. If anyone uses the word “white” in a proud way it’s racist. But people can say “black and proud.” It feels hypocritical. And those who feel they should be paid money for being black? We’re they personally slaves? Please pick up a history book outside of the United States. A great big world full of history exists.

There’s a way to make a point, and this just ain’t it.

which member really made a burner account to post solely problematic takes? :yennefer:  Any guesses?

As long as it’s done fairly I agree with all of this

Yeah ok... but those numbers still make no sense. Every black person owning a business wouldnt be increasing overall business by 2.9%. Thats if every individual of every other race owned a business and no black person owned one and this program made every black person own one. I dont get where ur going with these numbers :laughga:

Also i think the point is to bring the percentage of black individuals involved in entrepreneurship more in line with average not so much about the overall rate of entreprebeurship in the Country as a whole

It wouldn’t increase overall business to 102.9% .. it would be increasing black owned business in a perfect world where this perfect bill worked perfectly. It’s all hypothetical and Ludacris like this Loan. If everything equals 100% don’t certain percentages  have to go down for others to go up? You’re the one with the name Economy, Cher
