So like what happens if you have more children than what you’re allowed?

You get a huge fine that most people can't pay and on top of that you're likely to get fired from your job.

I read about a couple who were told to get rid of their child 4 months into pregnancy or loose their jobs, It's disgusting.

Overpopulation is a real problem. Resources are limited, capitalism has created a lack of equity, corruption exacerbates those differences and if the population keeps growing, there won't be enough room in this planet so that all humans can have the minimum for a quality life.

It's important to really educate the new generations when it comes to parenthood. That's the key for change. If people don't know why they're being told to stop having children, they will only see it as repression and will do the opposite.

Yeah right. Some people have more children because they’re able to collect more welfare.  I’m not against welfare, but some people milk it to the point where it’s almost unfair.

This is literally Poland in a sentence.

I can not understand how anyone would ever even want more than 1-2 children. I think if you’re having so many children you should at least be confirmed to be able to afford it properly.

I guess it's more the idea of not wanting to have and being forbidden to have

The thing tho is the most populated Countries are really not the biggest culprits of Earths resource issues

If the average person globally all consumed what the average person in populated Countries like China, India or Nigeria consumes, we wouldnt have half the issues we do tbh

The wealthy developed world is something like 20% or less or the worlds population (only USA & Japan have over 100M people) but are well over half of consumption

China may pollute or have a lot of ecological foot print in total but on a per capita basis its not that bad... and most of their pollution is in the manufacturing of stuff ppl in other Countries consume not their own population

In real terms rich Countries are still more responsible for environmental problems than direct data may suggest because a lot of manufacturing is offshored in cheaper labor countries and not done domestically but if they are the ones consuming the goods produced there in the largest quantities they are just as responsible for developing Countries emissions and resource consumptions...

So i dont think the issue is JUST population but its also excessive consumption and waste in many parts of the world

Like buy something off amazon and look at the amount of plastic and cardboard used and garbage made by a package for a small item. Its disgusting :triggered:

Chinese government says gay people are against nature because they can't get "naturally born" children but at the same time they are desperately trying to force natural births due to overpopulation I mean the irony of it :cryga:

Everything could be everything (it could mean anything)

Of course it's not the only issue, there are many other problems attached to it. But if we see ourselves again as a species that belong to a large ecosystem, we know we have escaped the biological population control that keeps the balance on earth when it comes to resources (aka virus, parasites, predators...). So as we are able to protect ourselves, the more we waste and the more we pollute.

And beyond the ecological impact, there's the social impact. So the more humans there are, the more social injustice there will be.

I agree. The more population the harder to sustainably manage. Naturally adding more ppl will only make the situation worse.

But i still think 8 Billion is perfectly sustainable if we did things properly... if #1 we were bigger into renewables and recycling and #2 if we werent such a consumption based society and didnt throw things away so quickly when it still works and is still usefull

Like our economic system creates these issues (again the 1 to 1.5 Billion ppl in developed rich Nations are already the majority of consumption which means if u cut population by 80% ud still largely still have these issues if the industrialized world is what remained)

Theres a lot of food that is grown that never ends up consumed... theres a lot of clothes and electronics or furniture etc that gets thrown out in favour of newer and better even tho its not yet broken... a lot of fishing literally throws away fish that isnt what they are fishing for... and of course a lot of stuff isnt recycled that can be and a lot of power still comes from fossil fuels

Sure lower population will help to some extent. But again the most populated regions arent the biggest problem creators and in any case birth rates are already dropping below replacement levels all around the world on their own anyway without measures because modern life basically already dictates less and less children hence the ageing of Earths population. In fact in the not too distant future Africa is expected to be the only continent on Earth with birth rates still above the replacement rate of 2.1 children per woman

So population is already gonna stabalizeband expected to start falling within our life times... but our consumerist ways will continue to be an issue even if we took very drastic measures and cut population in half this century for example. Its not gonna cut it, we need to consume less and what we do still consume to live and enjoy life needs to be done in a way that is more thoughful to mother nature. Thats whats gonna make the REAL big impact in my opinion

One of the things we should start doing - and not just for China but as a whole - is to stop feeding the idea that having children is the natural way of life, that everyone should have children at some point in their lives and they're selfish for not doing so, etc... So many people don't want children and are not made to have children, but so many still have them because that's what society repeatedly tell them to do, and you end up with children raised by parents who don't have the time or resources to properly do so. Let people be, there will always be more than enough people who naturally want children.

That's just a very long term solution though, it will take several generations to actually start taking effect... I don't know about China now but the only child policy was definitely implemented because the Chinese population had been told repeatedly to have many children, it was a sign of a good family etc.

Im not worried about China now tho as a side note. I immagine they reversed this because of their population crunch coming. Birth rates have beeb below replacement levels for a long time and as that bigger group of older generation starts to die they are looking at population decline already

Also they may allow 3 children but it doesnt mean many couples will actually choose to have 3... theyve allowed 2 in many parts of China for a long time but birth rates were still below that cuz many couples had only 1 child anyway

So this shift in policy will probably only raise birth rate enough to slow rate of decline a little, but their population will still enter decline either way

India on the other hand :bear:
