LEGO reveals LGBTQIA+ set - "Everyone is Awesome"

Just reposting this that I had left on a different post to summarize why LGBTQ+ people may not want to be a part of the systems in place....hope it explains some things....

A great resource as to why radicals are not for LGBTQ+ inclusion in institutions such as: marriage, the military industrial complex, and the prison industrial complex is "Against Equality: Queer Revolution, Not Mere Inclusion."  It critiques the neoliberal idea of assimilation to the norm for the said minority group.

From the website: "'Equality' is a concept inextricably linked to positive social progress, but as the authors collected here suggest, it’s a concept that often functions as a smoke screen to hide a world riddled with systemic injustice. Take marriage, for instance: is the right to marry whomever we want really a worthy goal for the queer community? What if this perceived “right” is actually a wrong? Against Equality suggests that seeking inclusion in a system that’s based on institutional and economic exploitation is an unacceptable path forward."

If a multi-billion dollar corporation like Lego want to make a product to sell based on a marginalized group then the least they can do is give back to said group. 

I agree that it would be nice if a company gives back to the communities that they profit from. BUT at the same time sometimes the visibility of the product is just as impactful as monetary gain. Also, even if purely for profit, a launch like this could be a proof of concept where this becomes the first of a much larger product line. I think there is a bog picture that should be taken into account.

Some of y'all just complain too much. Just saying that 20-30 years ago, gay community would dream to be represented this way by brands instead of treated as taboo or a disease. This in itself is another proof of progress.

Woah, great post, thanks for sharing. I'll be bookmarking this article to read later. I love these kinds of perspectives and I wish they weren't so "shunned" in our community discourse.

I hate lego and sure, why not, let's have a queer lego set, I won't complain, but you also don't need to use it to brand yourself progressive. Just put it out. That says enough about where you stand. So annoying.
