Literally came in to say why the user above said.

Let’s not worship these capitalists using real struggles to sell plastic pieces of ****. Lego isn’t going to move the needle to stop people being beheaded by their own family for being gay.

You’re bitter cuz u happen to not care much about Lego’s. I’m buying it. A childhood toy with happy memories. This rainbow piece is  meant to make the buyer happy. That’s the purpose here. And Lego can be passed down generations 😚😚😚

Why is it marked as 18+ on their website though...:oprah:

Loads of their sets are. Anything that's more aimed at adults is under the 18+ bracket, e.g the Lego Flower Bouquet, the Marilyn Monroe art, even the new Winnie the Pooh set.

Anyway, I think this is cute!

It's the absolute epitome of rainbow capitalism lmao.

But as a Lego fan I am HYPED to get all those new hair colours. The green one will be great for December 2013 Gaga figures:enigma:

Couldn't find anything on if they're donating to charities. The only thing on the page for this set is that they work already with some LGBT organizations in relation to their workspace.

Spoiler

The LEGO Group is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. It partners with Workplace Pride, Stonewall and Open for Business to help shape strategies and programs to support employees who identify as LGBTQIA+ and allies across the company.

So yeah seems like it the multi billion corporation couldn't spare a % for the people their capitalizing from. :triggered:

It’s not that big of a deal that they made it and I admit it’s kind of nice to see. But unless part of the proceeds go to a meaningful cause the only thing they’re doing with it is trying to make profits off of something because it happens to be more socially acceptable in 2021. We’re not some blockbuster movie franchise or children’s play set to make money off of. It just feels hollow.

Speak for yourself, I love when people make money off me :pole:

Another useless gesture by a company who only pretends to care about the gays between June 1-30. Sad so many users here are naive enough to fall for this ploy.

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

I don’t understand why rainbow capitalism is a bad thing (or marketing towards any group for that matter). It’s an acknowledgment that there is a group of people who have buying power. We can take it or leave it.

Another thing, why do SJWs want inclusion so badly, and then when something like this happens they complain? It’s like they want companies to be FORCED to include different groups but if they do it voluntarily they can’t stand it. IT HAS to be exhausting.

Ok, so first of all, I’m on the side AGAINST the performative homocapitalism that happens during Pride Month. Being LGBTQ+ isn’t solely a marketing tool so people think these corporations look “cool” or “inclusive”; it’s a way of life that comes with so much hate and systematic oppression.

A gesture like this with these cute little rainbow Lego pieces would be fine and all if this was made available permanently. But it’s kinda sad to see all of this “support” happen only in June when our community exists 365 days a year. Am I right?

It reduces us to nothing more than a temporary commodity. Notice how none of this stuff is available year round, none of these companies actively market things to the community except during June, and all they do is make feel good posts about how some colored toys are "inclusive." This is not what it means to be inclusive. It HAS to be exhausting bending over backwards to defend capitalism every chance you get :billie:

I’m gonna get scheiße for this, but this is the definition of rainbow capitalism. Sure, nice gesture, but c’mon...

”Rainbow capitalism (also called pink capitalism, homocapitalism or gay capitalism) is the incorporation of the LGBT movement, sexual diversity, and pinkwashing to capitalism, consumerism, gentrification, and the market economy, viewed especially in a critical lens as this incorporation pertains to the the LGBT, Western, white, and affluent, upper middle class communities and market.“

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_capitalism

Not looking forward to pride month. So many corporations jump on the pinkwashing train.

I really hate this argument so much. It's like some of yall really don't want us to have any visibility. In a capitalist world we are going to have to deal with the fact that capitalist corporations are going to find ways to capitalize off of things. I'll take the representation since they were going to make money off of something either way. Just because something has a cool sounding buzzword like Rainbow Capitalism doesn't make it inherently evil. And it's always first world queers who complain about this stuff while people like me would be elated to see any form of representation.

chaeri pls
