JesseBabe 837
The 3 singles grew on me after listening to the album in its entirety and are my favorites. I do think she's a little out of my age group so prior to this I didn't really give her too much attention. If I was back in high school at 16, I would have loved this though. It started to get repetitive about halfway through because it was essentially the same subject matter over and over again. Being in my late 20's, I don't relate to being an angsty teen anymore lol. But, overall I think the album is okay and I think she's somebody to look out for in the future.
StrawberryBlond 14,819
Like many have said, I'm too old to fully relate to the angsty teen vibe of all this. The major downside to an album like this is that not very much of it is ageless and she won't be able to sing this in years to come. Even DL is going to become dated when she's no longer a teenager and therefore past the age when most people get a license. So much of this was meant for a teenager to sing and it won't sound right coming from the mouth of anyone older. But it's well done for someone so young. Everything is decent at the very least minus about 2 songs. My ultimate favourites are Traitor, Good 4 U, Enough For You, Happier and Hope Ur Ok. She definitely has more than a touch of Taylor Swift about her in terms of similar age of debuting, albums focusing around breakups, writing her own songs almost completely by herself and playing her own instruments, but poppier and edgier. I can't knock that she's got talent. It's teenage writing, but it's assured teenage writing. It's just now a matter of seeing if she matures into an adult artist with time. It sounds like she wants to be the Alanis Morrisette type. 11 hours ago, Chromatica said: The claims that all the songs are all about a breakup are the product of the same misogyny Taylor faced early in her career. On top of that, she’s 18 and doesn’t have a lot to pull from. I appreciate the fact that she's young and therefore will write about a very limited well of things which is fine for a young debut. The issue with Taylor was that, for a while, all her albums were focusing on at east one break up and she had new exes to make a song about on every single album, which she was releasing every 2 years. It was getting very predictable which is why being with the same guy for nearly 5 years now has resulted in better music from her as she focuses more on love songs and even making up completely fictional narratives to make up for lack of inspiration in relation to her own life. Being far too one-note is not good for any artist. Though, yeah, I wish men would get the same criticism. I'm hoping that Olivia won't become an artist who becomes known as a breakup albums artist and this is just inspired by her first big heartbreak and then she can show more diversity from here on out. I wrote my first ever breakup album of sorts last year and it got it all out my system and now I can't see myself ever doing anything like that again. I don't know how some artists do it for era after era.
LateToCult 40,896
From the first listen I think the strongest songs are the singles. I really like Brutal and Jealousy, Jealousy. The rest will have to grow on me
ProfessionalClown 10,647
Okay the whole album is SOOOO much better than I expected. I didn’t like drivers license at all and didn’t really enjoy deja vu either. As soon as Brutal started playing I was SHOOK. that song is my standard rn
Gagafordope 34
I’m OBSESSED with traitor!!!
ProfessionalClown 10,647
Relistening to the album, I feel like drivers license and deja vu are by FAR my least favorite tracks. Brutal, Traitor, and Jealousy, Jealousy are major standout tracks. Brutal is one of my favorite openers in a long time.
RAMROD 109,232
Solid album start to finish. I really enjoyed it. Very good debut tbh. I am thinking she will win Best New Artist now.
