is not a political forum, we did not establish standards on talking about highly sensitive topics. If that is the wish, there should be rules enforced, that give room for informed and contextual debate.

Hmm no, are  you shocked by the Isra*li/Palestine post? Then dont look.

Where was this shock when many here were blatantly racist last year? (Literally many users got banned) Or when everyone used islamophobia to share their racist believes about brown people?

I guess white people get offended by the mere feeling of losing their privilege.

The site has a politics section for a reason, you feel offended don’t peak, easy.

I wish you'd read through the conversations first, before engaging. I was relating to discussions happening right now. I don't know what  was going on last year. I did talk about the ISRAEL/ PALESTINE posts, yes. I'd be happy if you could acknowledge both countries by spelling out their names.

I don't quite understand what the counter-argument of racism/ islamophobia has to do with that. My parents have fled from the biggest genocide in Europe after the holocaust. Hundreds of thousand of muslims have been killed in Bosnia, a large part of my family was amongst them. But yes, we are white. I don't know where you're from but problems of discrimination are not always about color. Discrimination is ugly and bad. ALWAYS.

Politics are indeed extremely important, they are also important to be dealt with sensitivity and compassion. What my life did teach me is, to look fascism and hate into the eye and counter it with love and patience, instead of more hate and stigma. This will not get us anywhere. We need to talk to each other and our experiences, with vulnerability and honesty. if I've learned anything is that spreading hate will not get us anywhere.

Better Day

As a member of frequently posts about politics. I have been a member here in 2012 (through a couple name changes) and I am always happy for respectful debates about politics on this forum. I totally get what you are saying but GGD has expanded to more than just Gaga and music. I do post about music etc but I do enjoy talking about politics on this forum because this is where I get the most response and I love the fact people challenge me on my views (but when they start spreading misinformation about me that’s when the knives come out)

I am really sorry for your family nobody has to go through it :runhug:

I read the OP again, how is what I wrote wrong?

Hmmm yes it is, I live in Europe I face discrimination and I am always politicized   whether I want to or not. Every new person I meet, they have to ask me about politics and my beliefs. You don’t see the same because they don’t see you as different.

They are not always about color, but they are always diverted to be about color or/and religion. That is why educating people and having such forums are important.

Yeah, I am happy for you to face fascism  with love and it worked. In reality it doesn’t work for everyone. Systemic racism and apartheid (e.g. Isr*el) will not work by simply love. There is so much that needs to be reformed, turning your eyes away and saying “love and peace” is not changing anything

Miss Dolly, I am completely fine with that. I really didn't mean to restrict the forum.. My pledge with this post was only rooted in pushing for a more civil and argumentative/ understanding culture of discussion. It's not realistic n'or realistic to narrow discussions down. It's not about that at all.. It's about building a space that is argumentative and compassionate for each others pain and experience.

I am being stigmatized by name all the time. People asking where "I am from" and having to explain myself. and then putting me in box constantly. But that is not the core issue for me rn.  You keep denying acknowledging Israel. That is hugely problematic. Furthermore, I'm not agreeing with you reducing my approach to a sense of "peace and love", it is definitely more complex than that. I'd like to showcase that people are suffering. Fascists are all around us, even the most "democratic" countries we believe to live in. We have to be careful not to scapegoat whole people because of the ****ed up governments and politics they live in.

I would love to see a filter to hide all threads tagged with politics, economy or society.

This is GagaDaily, not The New York Times :rip:

Yes please 🙏🏼 I go on GGD for entertainment news

There are already rules in place. If you’re not interest in politics, just don’t open the thread, it’s simples as that. I don’t mean this in a rude way, it’s just that it’s easier to just ignore the things you don’t want in your life then trying to enforce something on other people.

I totally agree. I have had some abuse from certain members here because of my political beliefs. I’ve been told to leave Scotland, racist, xenophobic and anglophobic. I have always been respectful to every person that posts in my threads. We all need to be more civilised, I am guilty as well.

Magic Mike

i'm more interested in understanding the rationale and policies behind the moderation of this forum. It feels a mess tbh. as for the political discussions, it just saddens me how the extremists jump to attack whoever don't agree with them. like, pure straight bullying - and, so many times, HATE SPEECH. it annoys me how poor is the rhetoric in those threads, something that then makes ggd similiar to the facebook experience

Hmm yeah that’s why it is not peace and love. I am saying it worked for you on a personal level but I don’t see it working on political issue or something societal

I know that’s but that doesn’t mean I will normalize it. I will call whoever is a fascist for who they are, pretending not to see it to be peaceful is being complicit to evil. I don’t mean you, I mean in general. Did people stand up to Hitler or was it peace and love? Here is your answer

Yeah I agree that is why I don’t do it.
