Wow this world has really become so PC.  How old is everyone in this thread ? Like 25 and younger?  This is an OBVIOUS attention grab....

So now it's "so PC" to use correct pronouns? :toofunny:

Someone's gender identity is not an attention grab. It is simply information that someone has shared with the public. Whether or not you choose to respect that person and use the information they gave you (in this case, identifying as non-binary with they/them preferred pronouns) is up to you. But it's in bad taste to criticize someone for their identity.

The point is....if I've lived my whole life as lets say a straight white male who is 65 years old and then one day realize i'm trans or non binary there are people out there who will jump on other people's back about calling me he/him and call me a bigot /ignorant/ transphobic/whatever.  Intention is all that matters...if someone is trying to be mean and disrespectful to you then that is their intention.  If someone slips up or says the wrong thing then give them a break.  There are also people who are attention seeking and using these labels to separate  themselves and make themselves feel special.  It's very narcissistic and gross.

Right?! The need for labels now a days is just asinine.

It's quite simple, really. 'they' and 'them' are words already contained in the English language. It's not difficult to use them to refer to someone.

No one slipped up in this thread so far and those who misgendered them have clearly done it on purpose. And I'm sorry but you don't get to decide what Demi's intentions are. I don't like them either but I have 0 proof that they're exploiting non-binary indentities so until then show some respect.

This is what manipulators say. Whenever somebody that has been oppressed steps into themselves/uses their voice, they're told their just seeking attention. Maybe seeking attention is a reaction to a lifetime of being disregarded?

I don't like Demi as a person, but good for them (I am a bit skeptical about this, but I will respect their identity and pronouns because I'm a decent person)

My thoughts exactly. You don't have to like Demi to respect her. People in this thread need to touch some grass :bear:

Call it naive if you see it as such. I also identify as non-binary and have been a fan of Demi for a long time. I, like the rest of the world, read this new piece of information today about their identity. I choose to respect them and honor their wishes regarding pronouns. You can make your own choice. But you have to understand that criticizing any single person identifying as non-binary, whether or not you think their intentions are pure, is damaging to the entire community. This is why I suggest you take the information and move on.

OR she IS just seeking attention because you have no idea the true depth some celebrities sink to for attention.  I'm not claiming she 100% is not non binary BUT she is using this for a reaction and it seems very calculated to me.

You're literally arguing FOR labeling people as male or female. You're fighting for labels, making fun of people who reject them, and then calling labels stupid. I'm sorry what.
