Well let's be real...to the straight world and to even to a lesser extent the whole non binary label is not always taken seriously.  I was just having a conservation with my sister about this today...she is a lesbian and I am gay.  We are both in our late 30's and came up before this whole non binary label.  We both expressed to each other that i don't really feel like a man or a woman....so maybe this is like being non binary but we both never felt some intense urge to label ourselves something else or felt pained when someone called us by our pronouns.  From someone who is older and can actually relate to how this feeling is inside....i can not however relate to be severely pained by someone referring to me as man or he.  I feel that SOME people want the labels they/them just purely so they can differentiate themselves and make themselves feel special and be PC crusader that is set to take on the world.  I like to look at all the evidence.....take caitlyn jenner for example.  She obviously has struggled for many years living double lives and you could see the pain she went through in interviews etc.  I may not like her as a person but i respect her and her identity.  Demi however....no i just dont.  I feel its phony and an attention grab....she is even saying this all evolving and she isn't sure of anything......so why say anything at all then if you aren't sure and everything is still evolving or whatever.  I just find her problematic and don't believe her intentions are pure.

Why do you feel like we should deny those that want to be differentiated and special by being called "they/them"? Is it so wrong that there are a group of people who want to feel other'ed but not disrespected? And if it is purely for seeking attention, which I might add is a very narrow-minded way of looking at it, then what's wrong with that? I'd argue that disagreeing and misgendering them causes more conversation and attention than simply accepting they use gender neutral pronouns and moving on. Even just saying "They're problematic and I don't believe their intentions are pure" instead makes a better point.

Because everyone is special and no one is special.  Maybe its my upbringing  but i despise attention seeking people and conceited  people.  People who have true intentions about something deserve to be given a spot light for others to learn.  Using a cause like this to gain a narrative in the press feels just phony to me.  I don't believe she is doing this for all those little people out there that are to afraid to be themselves.  I believe she is doing it for herself and her gain.  If you want to be an attention seeker then there is nothing wrong with it BUT don't go crying when you get opinions about it and people who are critical of you.  Especially if you don't have the best record.  Personally I don't think i could refer to a non binary person by they/them ever because grammatically it just sounds wrong inside my brain and i've never used it that way my entire life.  With that said I wouldn't go out of my way to misgender someone on purpose to hurt them.  I think I would just refer to them by their name always.  I don't have any non binary people I interact with regularly so its not really ever an issue but I've definitely seen certain public figures who use the label and sometimes I question the motivation.  I mean what if I decided I feel hurt by being referred to as he/him she /her they/them and just wanted everyone to refer to me as Self Contained Under Water Breathing Apparatus.  Should I just expect everyone to be on board immediately and label people a certain way if they didn't immediately give in to my request to be called this?

Good for Demi. I hope they are able to find peace. Poor individual has been working and going through it since childhood.

wait so now you get to speak for my feelings and others feelings who may feel hurt by not being called the exact name they prefer?  So when people say OH GOD demi please gurl.....its just a word...."her"....GET OVER IT.....do you have the same energy there?  Do you get to decide what is to far when it comes to people and how they feel about themselves ?

Personally, I don’t care what someone calls me. One exception: don’t call me late to dinner.

The users of StenfaniDaily might struggle with your SCUBA identity, but here on a Lady Gaga fan site, most of us understand that non-traditional forms of identity, be it names or pronouns, enrich our world.

I understand if you dislike Demi as much as they dislikes gluten free frozen yogurt. I understand if you think the Pronoun Police go a little over board. But, just use a person's chosen pronouns, even if it seems silly to you. If it's important to them, that is all that matters.

I know most of y'all don't like Demi (and I'm not a fan of them either) but as a NB person it -is- kinda disappointing to see so many posters blatantly disrespecting pronouns just to get a quick jab in at Demi, because a side effect is that it feels like you're disrespecting the rest of us NBs too in the process :S There's fallout that stings or saddens others of us here, it seems like you'd treat us in the same way. I know the response will be "well toughen up buttercup" and believe me I try my best but it gets exhausting every so often, sometimes you guys really work your way through a crack in the armor

TRIGGERED!!!How dare you acronym me! CLEARLY you are a bigot because I told you I ONLY go by SELF CONTAINED UNDER WATER BREATHING APPARATUS!!!  THE WHOLE NAME! THE WHOLE NAME!  I am not a SCUBA!  Lol anyways.....yes the pronoun police is a little out of control for my liking.  I don't know Demi and never will so luckily it will never be an issue for me.

P.S.  did you just say "she" dislikes gluten free yogurt .........LOL

I think the issue for me personally is it feels like queerbaiting. Like theyre trying to draw attention to something else after the froyo incident and is using “being” non-binary to get back on people’s good side. I doubt they’re gonna still use the pronouns by next year after everything has blown over.

it’s just disrespectful, in bad taste, and is seriously just not good.
