No wonder it’s called rap and rappers it should be called rape and RAPERS (not that it’s all bad or that they all are though). But this is disgraceful and terrible

You just posted something very prejudiced without knowing anything on rap culture. Rap culture =/= rape and abuse...

Seriously, how short can ARTPOP get?

now all those "If ARTPOP was an EP, what tracks would you put on it?" threads are becoming a reality :ladyhaha:

Well I hope ARTPOP becomes a real-time spotify playlist, in which she updates the tracklisting with Act II songs and reworks of ARTPOP outtakes over time. ARTPOP: The Playlist

I think it's not just rap culture. It's worldwide culture.

So No No No.

This. The truth is rape/sexual abuse is actually very prevalent in society in general, although sometimes it may seem to be about certain groups. It’s not about rap, it’s about men in positions of power that allow them to prey on vulnerable victims. That’s why it looks like it’s more common in the music business, among priests and sports coaches. It’s not that everyone in these groups are predators, but it’s easier for a predator to have access to multiple victims in positions of power like these and the more the victims, the most likely the story is to get out.

I’m a survivor myself, so this is just me trying to contribute to the conversation. I just wanted to say that this is a common assumption and it often comes from a place of just ignorance about the subject, not prejudice, so let’s not be so quick to judge, guys.

Yeah maybe not for female rappers, male rappers as they continually prove are a much different story :ohwell:

Also I think the idea of rap or rap culture not having significant elements of abuse is a total joke. There are actually legit studies on misogyny in rap analyzing the sexual violence and abuse to women. Here is just one of them:

All of y’all putting the entire genre of rap under the umbrella of “made by and for rapists” is…incredibly misguided and ignorant

that said, i truly hope these victims see justice and peace within themselves after being subjected to such horrific actions. there are way more rapists across the entertainment industry as a whole and it really is terrifying to think of how many unanswered calls for help there are every day. we must find a way to hold people in power accountable

While I see where you are coming from, I still think that is a very skewed and wrong take on rap. It's basically synonymizing rape and the art of rap as the same, which it isnt.

Rap is a culturally inherent form of expression/art to portray struggles (mostly within the african american community), and yes rape and abuse is very rampant within rap culture.

Rap is so heavily imbued and woven into the current day african american culture, that I feel it's a very controversial thing to say that rap and rape are synonym to one another.

This issue is more broadspread and not just rampant within the rap music industry, its also an issue in other genres like pop (think Dr.Luke) and think of metal music with it's violent and misogynistic lyrics but also abuse scandals behind the scenes (Marilyn Manson, among other metal/hard rock artists) : https://www.vice.com/en/article/9kg9ez/with-killtheking-heavy-metal-is-having-its-metoo-moment

HEARTSTOP

This is why collabs are BAD. Give me solo Gaga JnD, I love the beats but don't care about the rappers.
