World Health Organization is ivestigation a covid outbreak in Seyshells which has one of the highest vaccination rates in the world so far (60% receiving at least one dose) just had the worst outbreak its had since beggining of pandemic and restrictions are being reintroduced

Although unvaccinated are still disproportionately more likely to test positive, 37% of cases were among vaccinated, a higher number than would of been expected.

There are several possible explanations... one is that 1 shot is simply not very effective and guard down on restrictions with tourism created a new outbreak... variants are likely a factor... lastly there have always been trust issues with the vaccine developed in China and whether its truly as effective as claimed. The majority of vaccinations in Seychells have been either Astrazeneca or Sinopharm

This is exactly why the simple restrictions like masks etc should still remain for a while. People will not be careful anymore and the virus will spread to those non-vaccinated and new variants will appear etc... I swear to God we humans are so acting so dumb with how to beat this virus

The South African variant is stronger than the original though.

Yeah... i agree we need to remain cautious for some time... suddenly throwing in towel on caution cuz of vaccines is probably not a good idea

These variants are highly transmissible... even if we knew for certain that vaccinated cannot ever transmit the virus, even just 20% of population not being vaccinated is enough for outbreaks to keep forming

But definitely i wouldnt take it for granted that vaccinated ppl cant spread it... if the efficacy is not 100% in preventing symptomatic infections (even tho it will at least prevent severe symptoms and hospitalizations) that would suggest to me u have enough virus in u to potentially still spread it in some circumstances

These variants are an issue... the vaccines were never 100% effective to begin with... pfizer the highest rate during time of testing was still only 95% and that was before tougher variants became prominent

Tho vaccines are highly effective in at least preventing SEVERE desiese they dont garantee no infection and id assume that also means it doesnt garantee u can never spread it

So while vaccines will be a great toll and aid in helping to end pandemic i think its critical we continue to mask and social distance for now in COMBINATION with the vaccines. Hopefully both combined will eradicate this nightmare for good

AstraZeneca is the Demi Lovato of vaccines. Sis can’t catch a break. I’m sure it’ll be criticized too. 🥴

If they've only had 1 shot and already dropped all worries about restrictions then I'm sorry but this is a "water is wet" scenario :saladga:  like ****ing DUH

What's to look in to? They were only partially protected and just went about life as normal spreading it to everyone. In fact, probably went out more than they usually would've to celebrate

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

This. I got worried when I saw the "60% vaccinated" thing but they're not fully vaccinated or they're vaccinated with an sketchy or inferior vaccine :laughga:

Call me when there's an outbreak spreading in fully vaccinated people who got Pfizer or Moderna :green: then I'll be worried :green:

I love when Americans talk about how superior Pfizer and Moderna vax are but refuse to acknowledge how their government is the reason why many countries have had to resort to other vaccines since the US is hoarding most of them. This is all your doing ❤.

I’ve been seeing a lot of restrictions lift up on the states, too- even though many might not be fully vaccinated yet, or vaccinated at all.

With the likelihood of heavy variant occultation, plus further lifting of masking and distancing restrictions, I wouldn’t be surprised to see continued spikes around the world in countries that are simply not being restrictive enough.

3 points in and ready for more

How dare the US government secure vaccines for US citizens and residents before shipping them out to other countries (which it is currently doing anyway along with other medical supplies and needed aide) :oprah:
