noooo, NBC aren't the golden globes people, it's the HFPA that handle the awards vote etc. and are the governing body that people are pushing for reform in. NBC just broadcasts it and they are cancelling the broadcast in 2022 to ensure proper reform

Could someone explain what exactly is going on and what the cause of this is? Is it because of the coronavirus pandemic?

According to The Times “The HFPA does not publicly list its members but some details of its workings have emerged. It includes no black people but does feature a former Miss Universe, a Russian bodybuilder turned filmmaker and a Finn who has two books and a DVD on the Chinese art of face-reading.” A lawsuit by two journalists accuses the organisers of operating as a corrupt and secretive “cartel”. An investigation by the Los Angeles Times found that the HFPA regularly pays its 87 members in excess of USD$1M annually for serving on various committees, which may jeopardize its status as a tax-exempt non-profit organization according to the IRS. Its small membership is seen as an easier target to sway compared to the 10,000 members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who vote on the Oscars or the 25,000 members of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for the Emmys. Alleged influence campaigns include visits to film sets, fancy hotel stays and restaurants, expensive gifts, and access to celebrity actors. Many members are not journalists at all and established foreign journalists who apply are regularly rejected. The LA Times report highlighted many instances of members "representing" countries where they were not from, nor where they currently resided. In May 2021, Netflix and Amazon Studiosrejected a set of reforms that the HFPA had adopted to address this controversy as insufficient. The two studios and a coalition of film industry publicists enacted a boycott of the HFPA, withholding access to their films until the problem is addressed. As a result, NBC has canceled it's plans to air the 2022 Golden Globes.

- Accusations of racism (there hasn't been a black voting member in 20 years, black artists and shows keep getting ignored, former president called BLM a hate group).

- Accusations of predatory behavior and abuse (Scarlett Johnson talked about that earlier)

- Accusations of payola (Emily in Paris, a terrible show got nominations because Netflix payed an all expense trip to Paris for voting members with lush hotels and restaurantes)

yea it might happen still but there's no way of telling. i dont see another network picking it up next year. they might just announce the winners and call it a day cuz the show will be back in 2023 on NBC itself so im pretty sure there might be some deals in place that prevents it from airing anywhere else unless NBC relieved them from their contracts. or they are going to completely take the year off. rn we dont know. Some actors have already started sending back their trophies to the HFPA and thats def not a good look.
