Maybe there's a language barrier and you're just not understanding what I mean, and I do mean that respectfully. When I say that jazz and folk are the core of her music, the core of everything she does, I literally mean that's how she starts all her songs; at a piano or on a guitar, and she builds them up from there. Joanne does not build them up much more than that unlike albums like Born This Way, but it's still the same in spirit. That's why I say it's Gaga at her purest. Because she could take all the songs on Joanne and build them up like she did on Born This Way but she doesn't because she just wanted to prove she can still be Gaga without all the extra. None of that means she prefers doing stripped back music over electronic music. Think of Joanne as a root and her other albums as the stump and branches, and maybe you'll get what I mean.

I think I understand what you are saying, and still don't agree. I don't believe that the the original form of the songs is more truthful than the more full-fleshed final version. Your opinion is that Gaga at her purest stripped back sound is "the" Gaga sound, I say that the essence of Gaga is in the extravagant and fantesy-driven electronic style from most of her albums. That's the finallity that she aims for in her songs, so I say that should be more revealing of her vision than the starting point or the foundation-sound.

Well, no, that's not what my opinion is because I don't believe there is a singular "Gaga sound". She's too diverse. There is something that ties everything together, though, and that is what I believe the sound on Joanne to be, hence why I say it's Gaga at her purest. Also I never said it's more "truthful" than her other works (again, words are being put into my mouth) because, again, I think all of her albums are just as true to her as Joanne is. And I don' think that just because the final versions of her songs are usually electronic means that's the most revealing of her, because she's said many times that her songs are always transforming in many different ways for her and the idea of something being finished isn't something she believes in. So really you should be looking at the roots if you want a good idea of where she stands.

I, again, can't see why Joanne should be the musical output that has some central role in her discography (as in 'ties everything together') for all the reasons I already mentioned. But you are obvioulsy justified in your own opinion.

I think all the producers she's worked with have brought out the best in her and the sound direction she wanted for each album. Some do it better than others (Mark, Bloodpop, DJWS) while others don't quite hit the mark for me. But at the end of the day, we need to remember this:

Mark Ronson. He saw the rockstar in her, the Stefani in Lady Gaga. He didn't try to turn Joanne into a dancepop record like other producers with her other albums.
