People will still complain if white artists win lmao. They might as well just stop doing award shows.

It’s not that people get upset at white artists winning awards, people are upset that white artists get disproportionately praised vs POC artists.

Melodrama didn't win the Grammy so it's still a fall from them.

Or do I need to remind you that ed sheeran won that grammy... :interestinga:

Melodrama couldn't even make it into pop album (it should've won) which is why I'm sure they blocked Ed to make room for Lorde... I think that's a good thing!

the former's album was massive so him winning those awards was not surprising at all... he probably would've swept the gf categories as well

Is "nominations review committees" referring to the rumoured checking over of the final nominations before they're put out to the public for any last minute switches? I'm not sure of the full workings of the academy behind the scenes but I did hear about how it's not uncommon for the final submissions to be decided but then this group look over them and if they decide there's a name they want that's missing, they have the power to swap someone for this artist, even if the artist in question got minimal voter support. Is the abolition of nominations review committees referring to this? Because if so, that might stop the really weird, random, obscure nominations we've had in recent years, especially in the Big Four categories.

Probably not. ASIB might have though.

It’s weird that she didn’t get a nom for Album Of The Year which seemed like a shoe in but she did get an unexpected nom for Song Of The Year for ARUTW.

It was a very common belief at the time that the committee probably removed ASIB from the category and gave her the Song Of The Year nom as a consolation price.

I'm still lost on why it didn't get nominated. It fit all the rules and soundtracks have been nominated and won before. And judging by how many nominations and wins it got in other categories, the academy clearly loved it, so why did it escape the most obvious nomination of all? I'm tempted to believe that certain members in a very high position of power don't want some artists to get all the glory in one night for whatever reason and want to knock them down a peg or two. 2020 AOTY noms were very bizarre, most notably, Lil Nas X, who got nominated for an 18 minute EP that only got a MC score of 57. The nominations are more frequently resembling a single member's viewpoint as opposed to the votes of hundreds.

I kind of like the committee because they've had some good picks like Brandi, Lorde, HER, Black Pumas, but it's technically not fair that the highest vote getters are not being nominated.

ASIB would have been nominated last year, but AWUTW might have missed.

I don't think LG's nomiantions would be any different aside from that.
