The worlds wealthy Nations have bought 82% of all the administered plus soon comimg doses while 85% of the worlds population in developing and 3rd world Countries so far have 0

And because of this, I am thankful that the EU has bought the vaccines and is sharing them equally throughout the member states, or countries like mine (Portugal) would fight an impossible war with countries like Germany or France.

What i dont understand is how rich countries have that much more power to get them

 

I thought each dose for most of these vaccines was $10 to $20

 

Even poor Countries if they make it a priority can afford some

After America is vaccinated, I would hope Joe Biden helped other countries get their vaccines done and over with. It will help us and the entire world and would Probably do a lot to help our foreign relations after trump. Unfortunately, I don’t see that happening.

What I'm guessing is that they have much more power to contact Pfizer and pay upfront, while poorer countries maybe don't have that opportunity. And Pfizer obviously wants the money to be guaranteed

Wealthier countries have the ‘disposable’ income to invest in the vaccines during development, if it leads to a viable product that’s great, but if not whatever, they have their fingers in 100 pies. Poorer nations don’t have this kind of money to gamble with. 
 

likewise, priority will be given to larger/bulk orders, which benefits wealthier countries for obvious reasons

How so? I've been a bit turned off the news lately, but I remember seeing that Biden was going to give some vaccines to Mexico, and yesterday he said that he'll be sending vaccines to India to help them out

In fact i assume many Countries will once we are done

 

My Country Canada ordered 400M doses despite a population of 38M... thats over 10 doses per person. I doubt were gonna need that many boosters

I didn’t see this on the news but you’re probably right, I haven’t been watching the news recently for the same reason. I’ve just become conditioned to not expect the good from our country anymore lol. I’m glad he’s helping out other countries.

Yeah perhaps thats it. They see poorer countries as more likely to fail to pay so even if they try to buy it and set aside some money they get last priority

It probably has more to do with the diversified pie then. Probably not so much the bulk

 

Cuz poor nations are also the most populated. USA and Japan i think are the only two 1st world nations in the top 10 most populated Countries... so even if a Country like India, Bangladesh, Nigeria cant afford to make contracts with a bunch of companies and risk throwing away so much, they definitely still got bulk even if they only ordered 1 dose for every 5 people

Also consider that a lot of money spent on the pandemic responses is borrowed, which favors stronger, more stable economies 

I hope these countries do a lot to help out poorer countries

we can't blame the rich countries for wanting to vaccinate their whole population, sadly as one above said, money talks, Pfizer ain't a charity yet I'm glad big countries are putting some vaccines for poorer countries

this is the sad truth...in my country there's almost none vaccines and the number of new cases and how many people have died has not calmed down since the pandemic started they're only getting higher...while little children who are of no risk are getting vaccinated in some countries
