So, St.Vincent had an interview with this freelancer journalist, the next day SV had her PR team tell the journalist that she didn't wanted the interview published, and the website killed it, so the journalist released it on her own.

It has since been removed from her own website as well, but that is already too late. Damage is done. The webarchive has been made and free to access

But the real gag is, some people come out and share their experience on interviewing St. Vincent and turns out, this is not the first time she and her team being shitty to journalists. :bradley:

So, the indie music twitter were out to get her

Tl;dr

And it's getting worse

Not a good way to start a new era.

"For her last press cycle, she made her interviewers crawl into a pink box; she would play a pre-recorded message on a tape recorder if a question bored or irked her." wtf...

I skimmed the interview and it seems like there's some tension there too tbh. I feel like St. Vincent wasn't comfortable with the whole talking about her dad part but at the same time, she named an album after that incident so I'm not sure why she expected it not to be brought up?? this is all so weird

tbh i see both sides. i agree don’t do the interview when you know you’re gonna get questions you’re not going to like. but at the same time if she changed her mind and didn’t want the story published anymore then the journalist shouldn’t publish it. everyone is sh!tty in this particular situation

Omg the interview is so awkward :toofunny: It reads like the interviewer has already made all these assumptions about her album and her, and he just keeps asking her to basically confirm his theories/interpretations and every time she’s just like

I understand why she wouldn’t want this out. I get that it sucks for the journalist but oh well. That’s her right as the artist no?

Imo, as a journalist, you have to be aware of your subject. Looking at StV's interview style, she doesn't speak off the cuff that often and doesn't like to divulge too too much about her personal life; that being said, she clearly had a narrative in her head about how her personal experience relates to the narrative of this album and the interviewer challenged it and I think that's where the tension comes from. I understand where both parties are coming from, but I don't really think it's fair to paint St. Vincent as being a villain for this. As shady as it might be to pull an interview, it's also very antagonistic to release an interview without the consent of the subject.

Battle 4 Ur Life

she was giving out actually interesting answers to the journalist and I can’t think of how she came across as rude.

Her music is amazing, but her personality comes off a bit like "I'm better than you".

Where is the interview tension? Maybe I’m not reading it through text but it seems like a standard interview?
