Björk (the original alt queen :firega:), Lana, Lorde :enigma:

I would also say Sarah McLachan (90's icon) her album Surfacing is amazing.

Alanis has a lot of bops as well (Thank U is one of the best songs of the 90s period).

Sheryl Crow is ALSO one of my favorites (her music is more country/folk/alt oriented).

I like some Fiona's songs (her album Tidal is iconic though).

and what about Dido???? She got a point, she's a legend, she's an icon and SHE IS THE MOMENT (her last album is amazing, I LOVE the folktronica vibes in her music :bradley:, she puts a lot of heart in everything she does).

Taste!! Are we the same person? You listed all of my favorite artists. I grew up on the 90s female singer/songwriters.

Alanis, Sarah, Dido, Jewel, Sheryl, Fiona, Edie Brickell, Lisa Loeb! We could go on and on!

and yes, Dido’s “Still on my Mind” record deserved so much more. Was so lucky to see that tour. She’s divine

What about Japanese Breakfast, Jenny Lewis, Tori Amos, Liz Phair, PJ Harvey?

I love Lana and Billie, but they're not really alternative. Just pop with a twist. On your list? It's Fiona for me. But I love the 90-00 alternative girls best (see: my list!)

I think alternative has kinda became just a different word for pop music:bear: I have caught myself using a word Nu Alternative of those alternative bands / artists who I actually find alternative:air:

What's the definition of "Alternative" in this thread? Cause I don't really know KB and FA were alternative.

So I'll choose Billie I guess.

It's one of the best albums of 2019, period :ohwell: (my second fav after NFR)

The Globe Sessions is one of my favorite albums from the 90s :bradley:

and Witness by Sarah M. is an underrated masterpiece  I'm going to stream it asap :icega:

Without Kate Bush there wouldn't be either one of the others. Kate Bush sort of "invented" being a weird female artist and she invented the - as I call it - Britney Spears microphone. So without Kate there wouldn't be Madonna, without Madonna there wouldn't be Britney and without Britney there wouldn't be Gaga.

Don't LMFAO-react me.

Lana.

Not any of these girlies have Born To Die, Ultraviolence, Honeymoon and a NFR in their discography

I mean I agree Lana for sure

but I'll say Kate Bush has an amazing discography as well

her BTD could be The Kick Inside

her ultraviolence could be Never For Ever

her honeymoon The Dreaming

her NFR Hounds of Love

Lorde could also one day if she releases music lol

And I love Fiona Apple too but she hasnt much commercial success in comparison to these others

They’ve been alternative ever since the beginning of their careers
