China censors Nomadland

In Cold War like atmosphere, China muted any news or reactions in their social media about recent Chloé Zhao's Oscars. But despite censorship, there's today an atmosphere of joy and pride among Chinese people.

According to this article, ' “Nomadland,” which was originally scheduled for a theatrical release in China on April 23, is in limbo. The reason for the cold shoulder is attributed to a 2013 interview in which Zhao, 39, is said to have described her home country as “a place where there are lies everywhere.” '

This could hurt distribution of upcoming Disney feature 'The Eternals', as it is directed by her.

China banning everything left and right.

Didn't they ban everyone who breathed the same air that the Dalai Lama breathed in?

Maybe big movie corporations should finally stop catering to Chinese government's whims.

So long ggd, it was nice while it lasted.

Also because Do Not Split, a documentary about HK demonstration, was nominated.

They are pathetic. Not just the government, but those people who supported their government to trash Chloe Zhao (or whoever did things that pissed them off) on Internet. Threatening, banning, and censoring are what they use as tools to control their own people and other countries right now. They're now even banning Chinese tv series featuring any feminine/LGBTQ male characters:smh: because there have been more and more Chinese gay-themed drama series over the past few years. The officials said "male roles should be masculine and heroic." What a joke!

Things like this need to be condemned. I hope the Chinese people see through their governments lies one day and the way they are trying to be controlled.

The United States has no moral compass to judge China. The United States is an oppressive military police state and anti-china propaganda is meant to encourage us to forget this fact. China is no worse or more corrupt than other world powers.

The United States is a wolf in sheeps clothing. A fascist government under the guise of a two party system. There are daily public executions at the hands of the state in the United States. The government leaves the people high and dry and brainwashes them into thinking they are taken care of in the greatest place on earth. Rose colored glasses and economic imperialist propaganda are powerful! Whether things are better or worse in one country or another is debatable.

It's about Chloe Zhao, Nomadland is a byproduct.

As a Chinese, my take on it is that government doing this does nothing because people like me who are interested in Oscars would always know her and this film, while people who won't know aren't interested about her anyway.

When you talk about a country's government, know that the people in it has no control over anything, Trump could do **** thing, that doesn't make America people ****, so are Chinese, for example this comment below is very biased on this topic, we can't just move to a different country because our government did something shady, things aren't black and white or us and them.

well, if they are censoring her work like that, it just proves further she was right with this statement :poot:

I guess we won't witness the day when China stops acting this way and finally lets its own people to be fully free.

Maybe it's platonic love, but it's only gothic black XXXIII
