Pokemon Natures 101 :whip:

This is even easier to understand then EVsIVs

-----

/// What is a Nature?

- A Nature is both a stat Booster and stat Decreaser, dependent on which is applied to your pokemon.

-The Boosted stat will receive a 10% increase in that stat

-The Decreased stat will receive a 10% decrease in that stat

-There are 25 total natures your pokemon could have. (20 boosters/decreasers, 5 Neutral)

Here's a graph:

SuJT9lj.jpg

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Nature

Dont worry about Flavors, they're irrelevant in Gen 6.

---

Ill make a Example use a random pokemon and made up stats. Use the Graph above to herlp understand. and remember the  +/- 10%

---

Ralts 1 Nature = Hardy (No boosters or decreasers)

10 Hp

10 Attack

10 Defense

10 Sp.Attack

10 Sp.Defense

10 Speed

Ralts 2 Nature = Naive (Speed Increaser & Sp.Defense decreasers)

10 Hp

10 Attack

10 Defense

10 Sp.Attack

9 Sp.Defense

11 Speed

---

In short: Natures slightly boost/decrease a pokemons stat. Its highly suggested you stay away from neutral natures as (even though they balance out) since the boosters rewards outweight the decreased stat.

---

/// Combine EVs and Natures for great effects!

(I'll just make another example)

I really want a super powerful Special Attack based Gardevior.

To start this, look at Gardeviors Stats: Here

We can see her best stat is Spercial Attack (obviously). So we want one of these Natures below:

-Modest

-Mild

-Quiet

-Rash

So now that we have our stat booster, we need to choose a decreaser. In this case, since Gardevior isnt a physical attacker (attack stat) we'll decrease the Attack Stat. So our winning Nature is: Modest

Our Gardevior will now recieve a 10% Boost in Special Attacks (like Psychic and Moonblast). And recieve a 10% decrease in Attack moves, which she doesnt really use)

---

Now if you go to Super Training and smack 252 Ev's in Special Attack, that Moonblast is going to hurt something fierce.

---

And thats Natures in a nutshell!

You're amazing! Thank you once again! I'll begin my attempts at EV training right away!

Thanks! I had one last question. How do EV enhancing items play into this?

lol are you breeding with a foreign pokemon? MM might make it somewhat worth it if you just randomly hatch a shiny while trying to get your perfect pokemon

I was breeding some cyndaquil to trade, and burmy to get a male one and I randomly got shinys of them

(Shiny burmy is crap btw. Might as well get a colour blind person to tell you the difference. thank god the shiny one was male so I have a pretty mothim now   )

OMG! You're so lucky. I don't even get a shiny.
