Lucas 26,822
I wonder if he and Gaga were actually satisfied with the album then. He specifically talks about the day that they turned the album in. Means some people took decisions about the music/songs that Gaga/DJWS disagreed with I guess?
HuffsAhoy 7,433
In so many ways I can relate to the traumas the two of them experienced during that era because I was also struggling with a lot, too. And for whatever reason, I seemed to internalize all of the hate that was thrown her way which made things worse for me. I mean I was really depressed between 2013-2014 and its one of the main reasons I shied away from ARTPOP for the longest time, it reminded me of that dark time in my life. You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

The thing that was more sad to me during that era was seeing she wasn't alright, and all the negative articles about her. I wasn't on this site, or have contact with other fans or people online talking about her. I just googled her and read what came up. So to me, it was like, people are really dismissing and being unfair. To me Gaga, since the beginning showed a tremendous talent, that was more than just a singer. And the negative opinions about her those days were just so unfair, like people were missing the big picture or something. That's why, when I talk to people about her these days, even people that don't like her music or don't listen regularly, and they talk positively about her or show great respect for her, her artistic talent, being it music, ability to sing, stage performance, or acting, i smile so big inside, cause I always knew it lol. If I remember right, she didn’t want to make Dope but her label pushed her to spill out her heart as she wanted IWBWY to be on the album. Such a happier song that would have been better than her having to pick at old wounds 😥 Also, I really wish record labels would let artists put out what art they want to, not what the label think is best. You wouldn’t tell a chef what their menu should be. Plus I’m still bitter NOBTR has never been on an album! Scare them first, so they can’t scare you... Chris Evans 8,917
he's not talking about the hate ARTPOP got in that quote, this is before the media got a hold of fake numbers that intentionally wanted to make it seem like the album was a flop. he's specifically talking about the behind the scenes drama that no one has really talked about the day he had to turn in the album to interscope. imo it has to do with people wanting to take credits that they never deserved, troy carter, and people latching onto them and cashing out like the G.U.Y. video insinuates. Like of course fans are gonna come up with expectations of how the music will and should sound before the album comes out. They have 3 years or so to do that. If we had more music to digest then we wouldn't be so savage. Not just this fanbase. Every American artist fanbase. Like....give us eps give us stand alone singles. Give us stuff like that. Like ..it's not that hard. I don't think he's talking about the fans at all...

This is EXACTLY how I feel. I love the album, but that timeframe was so difficult for me too and I've just not listened to the album in a while until recently for this exact reason. Like ..it's not that hard. This is pop music specific. In rap, indie, and electronic, a lot of the artists I follow release a variety of singles, EPs, and mixtapes seemingly as they make it and then throw it into an album as part of the album. Unfortunately, this is mainstream pop music. Some big profile artists for sure have a huge sway and influence over how things are run with their music, but they all still have to subscribe to the contract they signed with the label, which is a sale oriented field. Bigger labels handle things in a much more structured and rigid by the books way to ensure they maximize profits.
