Wow. This is such a huge step for our community, I can't help bit feel sad for all the people who could've still been here.

I think about that a lot. Even PreP and other drugs could have saved millions, if they were available back then.

isnt this touching even straight people?

HIV/AIDS affects everybody, it's a complete myth that its a gay disease, the aids crisis of the 80's disproportionately affected gay men because they didn't use protection because back then protection was for avoiding pregnancy, therefore gay men didn't use them. Nowadays HIV effects all walks of life. Here is 2019's UK breakdown.

Anyone can get HIV but people from some groups or parts of the world are more likely to be affected. In particular, men who have sex with men and black African people are disproportionately affected.

Of the 4,139 people diagnosed with HIV in the UK in 2019, 41% were gay or bisexual men.

Of the 1,559 heterosexual people diagnosed with HIV in 2019, 37% were black African men and women.

In 2017, the overall mortality rate for people aged 15-59 who were diagnosed early was, for the first time, equal to that of the general population for the same age group.

It's more rife in gay men because of how gay sex works. The an*l wall is thinner than a v*ginal wall so therefore bacteria and viruses find it easier to pass through it and into the bloodstream.
