The Scrubs alum has joined the cast of The CW's Powerpuff live-action pilot from writers Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier. (The project is now formally called Powerpuff, dropping the "Girls" from the original's title.)

Ordered to pilot last month, the drama is based on the beloved Cartoon Network series and revolves around the Powerpuff Girls, who used to be America's pint-sized superheroes. Now they’re disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?

Faison will play Professor Drake Utonium, who is described as the quirky, debonair and narcissistic scientific genius who is immensely proud of the three extraordinary girls he created in his lab. Staring down a midlife crisis, he is determined to repair his relationships with his now-adult daughters.

Mojo Jojo’s legacy continues on in The Powerpuff Girls universe as Nicholas Podany is set to play the villain chimp’s son in the CW’s live-action Powerpuff pilot.

Podany’s nerdy, power-hungry, insecure Joseph “Jojo” Mondel Jr. was obsessed with the original crime-fighting trio of supergirls, despite his father’s grudge against them. As an adult, Jojo finds his sweetness and rage constant battle. In the original cartoon series, Mojo Jojo posed as the super-powered trio’s main adversary. Before the battles against Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, Mojo Jojo served as a chimpanzee assistant to Professor Utonium in his  lab where he accidentally caused the accident that created the Powerpuff Girls, and altered his own DNA.

Why does this show have so many f**king reboots lmao

I wouldn’t call this a reboot. This is a live action adaption.

the only ppg reboot is the 2016 cartoon

Why is Professor Utonium black?

Because the powerpuff girls were made in a lab and are not blood related to the professor in any way

Still Professor Utonium is presented as not person of colour in cartoons. :selena:

Sugar, spice, and everything nice.

I think the argument is that professor utonium's race is not relevant in any way with the story, so why not?  I'm indifferent cause I'm tired of this dead show rebooting. lol

It's a cartoon :laughga: I don't think his race really matters to the role tbh. Just like the Little Mermaid being black or some of those animes that got adapted to American movies using white actors. If the character's race isn't consequential to the character then it really doesn't matter who gets the role. At least, that's my take :diane:

OT: Can't wait to not watch this :selena: actually, I'm lowkey curious about Mojo Jojo's son. Like...did they kill the monkey or what? And why is he human? :poot:

Doubt it. It’s airing on the CW. They don’t have a high budget.

I gotta feeling that they’ll make mojo Jojo dead and they’ll only do one scene with him
