The book is messy and sloppy, so the ending is mirroring that. It was rushed AF. Aciman tried to tied up everything and fails miserably. Not to mention there are retcons happening in this sequel that doesn't match with the first book. Events in the first book were changed on this sequel. It is as if Aciman don't even remember what he wrote then.

Half of the book is about Elio's dad, that were written so that the ending of the book can happen. But it just feel pandering, stupid, and silly because of how rushed it was.

They basically grow old, Oliver gets married, has kids and lives an absolutely normal life in the US. I honestly don’t remember very well but I was very disappointed. I think how the movie ends is way more interesting.
