One of Madonnas absolute best songs imo is turning 35 today!
Live to Tell was released March 26th 1986 as the lead single for her third studio album True Blue and it peaked on #1 on the Billboard Hot100.

It also gave us this iconic performance on the Confessions Tour :diane:

Lose control. Let go and fall. Do you get the satisfaction?

Im surprised she chose this song as the lead single. its good, but I thought something else would have been the lead

One of her best and that performance on the Confessions Tour  I was so SHOOK the first time I watched that moment. No one since has had the balls to pull of something that daring.

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

the safe single choice would’ve been papa dont preach. wouldve kept her teen fans, and engaged the older generation. but she went for it, and chose LTT. that’s madonna. bold decisions

Well it was released way ahead of the album, as a soundtrack single for Sean Penn's film.  Papa Don't Preach was released when the album launched.

I can't even begin to imagine how surprising it was to hear this song and see the video right after the bubblegum pop era of Like a Virgin and Material Girl...

definitely one of my favorites from her, the song is so comforting, epic and mysterious at the same time, it gives me the chills

... and now i just sit in silence.

just a bit of info: fans often say that Live to tell was snubbed at the Oscars (because the song is definitely Best Song material), but in reality it wasn't even eligible for a nomination because it was written for another movie, and then attached to a different film in the end.
