Just look at the way the OP is structured.

Low-income families of color in Oakland, California, could receive some extra financial assistance over the next year and a half.

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf announced this week that the city will launch a guaranteed income project to give hundreds of Black and Indigenous families and people of color $500 per month for 18 months.

This part is an actual quote from the article that is linked. So far so good.

An estimated 10,000 of Oakland's 435,000 population are white residents who live in poverty, defined by earning less than $12,880.

This is not part of the linked article. This sentence is nowhere to be found in the article. This is a unverified claim that the user posting has tacked at the bottom of his post, to make it seem like this was valid concern that CNN was raising. We don't actually know how many low-income white families would be elligible for this program. We don't know how many of these supposed 10,000 poor white people actually live in families with children under 18 years old.

So where does that claim come from?

It's a claim by UK right-wing tabloid press outlet Daily Mail that is notorious for misrepresenting facts and being sued for spreading misinformation or actual lies (This is the news outlet that Dua Lipa sued and WON against because they claimed that Covid Safety Protocols were violated on the set of her music video for Levitating).  Yikes. But also, let's talk about the Daily Mail article:

The article is actually not that bad, it even contextualizes that this is a lottery system and that only very few families will be able to participate in this test run and that BIPOC families are preferrred because their data shows that they've been hit very hard by the pandemic, however it also specifies that low-income white families are elligible to apply and allowed to parttake in the test run.

Other newsoutlets that ran with this headline are "We Are The News", a Q-Anon MAGA blog and the news outlet "Breaking911", a news site that is frequented by Neo-Facists and the Alt-Right of the Internet. Oops.

Matter of fact, only half of the planned spots on the list are "reserved" for BIPOC families, the other half could very well be awarded to poor white families.

"Oakland Resilient Families, said it planned to steer half of the monthly checks towards black, indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) in East Oakland."

So... what was the purpose of including that information in the first place? What was the purpose claiming that white people were fully excluded from participating, when they just were not the priority in this project? What was the purpose of conveniently leaving out that ALL ethnic minorty families of Oakland together have to share 50% of the spots, while white families could potentially receive the other 50% without having to share?

People who think reverse racism exist aren’t gonna read that, but bless you for trying you are doing Black Jesus’ work

it is racist to exclude white people from such a programm, if they are equally poor as black people . Same chances shall be granted to everyone. Reverse racism will not solve any problems rather put America behind

Fix your title. The point isn’t that whites are excluded, it’s that the program is specifically for black, brown and indigenous people exclusively.

HuffsAhoy

I am so sick of reading pro-racism rhetoric on this website and the same ole white users trying to play victim.  It's so disgusting that in 2021 we still have people spouting off idiocy like "stop looking at color, we are all equal" :awkney:

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

From what I've read, it's 100% privately funded and no tax payer dollars are being used to stipend these individuals. This would make it almost impossible to challenge in the court of law.

Thank you for clarifying.

I fully support this stipend. It is up to the private organization that collected the money where to spend and allocate it. They can partner up with the government to make sure the people they targeted will receive the money but it isnt up to the government who to give it to as it isnt government money.

Imagine donating for a breast cancer reasearch fund and then someone complains to you why you are only donating to breast cancer reasearch. How about the prostate cancer research?

It becomes preposterous at that point.

Orrrr... This is just one program dedicated to a certain population in need. This ain't reverse racism, in fact that doesn't even exist lolol. This is an effort to chip away at systemic racism by explicitly lifting up bipoc.

White people in need can turn to other support opportunities. They're out there.

$500 a month is not unsubstantial.

that’s a total of $18K a year for families. you are delusional if you think that is at all helpful. try to live off of $18K in oakland for a year and get back to me.

how is $500 a month going to help people who earn less than $12K a year?

Uh, you realize an extra 500$ a month is a 50% increase? That would do wonders

Oakland city government: We're giving a monthly bonus to low-income families of color. This is a test run to see if a guaranteed income stabilizes their situation, we're focussing on BIPOC primarily right now because our data shows that they've been hit the hardest financially, but we plan to expand the program to everybody if it is successful.

GagaDaily user hankhatesyouall: THEY ARE BEING RACIST AGAINST THE WHITES!!!!!!! EVERYTHING HAS TO BE ABOUT WHITE PEOPLE!!!!!!

You're not fooling me. You're framing an initiative to help people of color who live in poverty as discrimination against white people in poverty. You're trying to pit these two marginalized groups against each other for the sake of spreading your personal ideology.

Is there a race-based initiative to help white people who live in poverty? I don't think so. Imagine the outrage.
