Anti-Asian is bad

Bur if you put hate behind it, it will become pro-asian

Aphasic

We have to take action: defend those who need our help, stand up for those who are being treated unfairly.

Actions speak louder than words. ACT.

The problem has always been here but it has since gotten worse due to the COVID pandemic and the recent rhetoric about Chinese people from Donald Trump. As an Asian person myself, I’ve dealt with the occasional racist  comment and xenophobic slur, but this is the first time in my lifetime that I’m seeing members of the AAPI community fear for their life in North America. It’s the first time that I’ve been told I should be careful about visiting certain countries and locations just because of the way I look. We have to be careful walking by ourselves, especially our most vulnerable elders, because now anyone, anywhere could be out to harm us. This whole situation is just heartbreaking, but it’s not surprising in the slightest given the stigma around being a minority in a Western country.

Look up the murder of Vincent Chin in 1982, who was beaten to death by two disgruntled auto workers who mistook him for being Japanese.

Racism against Asian Americans and Asian immigrants in the US is nothing new, but yes, Covid and Trump have exacerbated it and emboldened racists.

Do you guys consider Indians as Asian too? Indians have been going through this for quite some time as well, and was at it's worst circa 9/11. We definitely know how you guys feel.

Yes. Indians are Asians too, this video also talks about the harrasment South Asian people (Indian, Pakistani, Sikh and  many more) have received after the 9/11 attacks because they were perceived as "terrorists". The current discussion that is being had is mainly centered around people of Chinese descent and those who "look" that way, but the video itself addresses hate against many different ethnic groups of Asia in the USA and also talks very specifically about the cultural differences of these different Asian groups when it comes to voting behavior for example (Like Vietnamese-Americans being inherantly more sceptic towards socialist ideas because of their experiences in the Vietnam war and fleeing a dysfunctional communist regime)

Where i live (Toronto suburb in Canada) during the innitial wave we started going to Oceans (a Chinese grocery chain) because stores were always packed woth panic buyers yet Oceans was pretty empty all of a sudden cuz ppl started fearing the store just because its known as a Chineese store

But most of the brands are the same as other stores only a few products and vegetables are different, anything that did come from china the virus would of died on surfaces because of how long the cargo trips are, and even if imports were that big a threat for Covid, it quickly spread beyond China so any other Country was a threat just the same

We expected a few people to be that stupid and just think China grocery store = Covid19 virus which is why we tried it but we didnt expect the reduction in traffic there to be THAT major. Like it fell by half. Does that mean half of customers thought that way?

So stupid :toofunny:

That’s EXACTLY what I thought reading the title.

It should be “Asian hate”.... or just “Anti-Asian crime/violence”.

I don't know why anybody would think that. "Asian hate" sounds so much more ambiguous. "Asian hate" doesn't sound like "Hate against Asians", it sounds more like "Hate BY Asians, Hate perpetuated by Asian people against xxxx", which is... the actual opposite of the topic.

This is not talked about enough. And that is not OK

As for East Asian, they are usually not considered POC because they are light skinned. Which is stupid.

And for South, West, and South East Asian, they are usually got of hate especially after 911, which is not OK at all

The hate came from many side for them, the Caucasians, South Americans, and the African Americans more often than not are unwelcoming and racists to Asians.
