Confessions of an ex-Dope hater

I used to hate Dope because of that growl she does when she sings in pain, same with Til It Happens To You and sometimes Angel Down but have to be in the mood to listen to it. Very depressing songs but it's a mood. Dope's production is really good though, one of her best.

Success wise, it's one of those only tracks critics actually somewhat receive well in ARTPOP. And whether due to luck or some trickeries, it is a cute addition to Gaga's top 10.

People either hate it because it comes out nowhere after MJH and go straight back to Gypsy. Or they prefer IWBWY over it. But if we let it stand alone, Dope is quite cute at least compared with Fashion! or top 80 hit, G.U.Y.

Please ignore the spelling in username. I am a Beyonce stan afterall.

I actually really love the instrumental. The production direction is absolutely beautiful. I just find the vocals trying to over push somewhat mediocre lyrics.

I love Dope, but I skip it most of the times, because when I listen to ARTPOP my energies are up in the sky and this song takes them down to earth. It kinda ruins the moment for me. I still love it as a song, though, I just don't like the fact that it was included on ARTPOP.

i like it, but because of the whole thing with I Wanna Be With You, it feels inauthentic to me. like she only wrote it because her label said IWBWY wasn’t relatable enough

That is true I actually preferred IWBWY over Dope when the album first came out. Maybe we will get IWBWY someday. :bradley:

I love Dope so much, It's such a raw and powerful song.

Knowing people who've struggled with substance abuse It hits hard every time I listen to it.

Is it even true? She was an executive producer after all, if she really wanted IWBWY, she would probably released it no matter what they said

idrk, that’s what i heard

but i think she doesnt own her masters, so it’s really not up to her. she may own the rights, but the recordings are her label’s property. she can’t sell something that she doesn’t own

I could be wrong, but arent masters more about getting/doing things with songs after the release? (like selling them to another person, getting money from streaming, giving permission for a sample, etc.)

And being an executive producer about deciding what you want on your record?

If I'm correct, Kesha also doesn't own anything, but she still had 100% control over Rainbow and High Road as an executive producer
