Better Day 5,766
Tbh, I have been a little bit sceptical of the vaccines with the reports on the news. Now this news, I am just wondering are they any point in taking the vaccine if we will have to endure lockdown after lockdown with social distancing and masks for years to come. Together You And I! Well it's more the social distancing that's the issue, but also to an extent masks as they actively remind people that you are in a possible unsafe environment, some people are scared and will remain scared therefore not go out, and in turn the economy suffers. And they shouldn't be vilified for wanting it. People are allowed to express their disdain for something without being labeled annoying. Social distancing is annoying, and as soon as it is safe to do so it should be gone.
gagaisitalian 3,573
Can we stop taking everything one, single "professional" says and blowing it up as if it's fact? 1/4 of Americans have received their first dose of a vaccine. Once we reach herd immunity, there's no logical explanation as to why we should keep the protocols in place. I'm all for masks if a business requests it, but when herd immunity is reached, it's time to return to events and normal gatherings. It's crucial for people's livelihood and mental health (even more so if their career is in live entertainment).

I agree, but the issue is that this was headline news here in the UK, blasted on primetime 6pm. And they word it in such a way that it can send people in a tail spin. My mum rang me after watching the news crying because she's so fed up, she's a carer has seen over half of her residents die over the year. Hasn't seen me or my brother in a year and is basically a broken woman. And now she thinks she wouldn't be able to hug her children for years. That's the issue, why on earth did they broadcast this as headline news. I wouldn't be shocked if somebody somewhere committed suicide after reading it. The media has alot to answer for with the way its handled this.

Not trying to be insensitive or rude but not seeing each other for a whole year sounds awful.

She moved into the residential home to look after them. And after she was finally out, she was scared that if she did meet up with people she would then pass it on to the residents who are all 90+ and major risk. Also I live on the other side of the country and travel for the most part was barred/reduced. Now that all her residents are vaccinated I intend to go visit her, but she's just like exhausted from it, and the news today tipped her over the edge. She sounds like a wonderful woman who cares about the people she cares for. I know people in healthcare who didn’t care at all. I hope you can meet up soon

When the pandemic started. They lost about 40 residents in the space of 6 weeks, just dropping like flies. So I can understand why she has been super anxious about it.
