Lowkey fine with this. I haven’t gotten sick all year thanks to masks

Same girl. I usually get two bad colds a year. Not one since the masks.  My dust allergies have also never been better.

Its important to persuade people to book an appointment tho. I’m not attacking the Doctor, I’m coming for OP and the media in general. The media needs to stop pushing the “nothing will fundamentally change” narrative with the vaccines. You could have argued for a lifestyle full of masks and social distancing when it came to the yearly flu too a few years ago

The focus needs to be on government vaccination and headlines like “misery will last years” are annoying

I mean I agree but what I usually see is people want to hear what they would like to happen. That's not how it works.

Not matter the "messaging," if you do what science says, you will be fine. It's just that simple.

Look at Trump. He literally was against masks, social distancing, etc. That did not stop me because I am an informed individual. I don't care about messaging from politicians.

An epidemiologist is just sharing a real possibility based on data, and they are most likely correct. Masking will be needed in many parts of the world as vaccine access isn't equal. Variants that evade vaccine protections could also rise up.

My point is: Follow what the doctors and scientists are saying. Ignore politicians.

today I received the following email from a bluegrass festival I attend each year in upstate NY:

"Hello Bluegrass Fans!

With the Covid vaccinations well underway in NY, PA, and other surrounding states, the chances of Pickin’ In The Pasture being permitted to happen this August 26, 27, and 28th 2021 are excellent!

When the Covid pandemic forced the shutdown of the 2020 Pickin’ In the Pasture, we realized that finances were probably difficult for many of our customers and didn’t feel right about rolling the tickets forward while holding their money for well over a year.  Full refunds were immediately mailed to all advance ticket buyers.

All bands booked for the cancelled 2020 event have been offered spots on the new 2021 schedule.  A few adjustments may be needed.

There will be no price increase from the cancelled 2020 event and camping will remain free to those purchasing weekend tickets.  We will be sending out a flyer soon but in the mean time visit www.pickininthepasture.com for more information.

At Pickin’ In The Pasture we have always tried to do the right thing and hope you will choose to attend our festival in the beautiful Finger Lakes.  We hope to see you in The Pasture!"

I'm sorry but everything about this was incredibly pleasant to read :bradley:

I'm sure they'll have ample resources and guidance from health officials to safely have events :kara:

For a pandemic to stop, the spread has to decrease, shoudln't just be decrease of severe illness, because then we'd still have a lot of cases but less deaths but it would still be a mess. So I dont understand how a vaccine that only lowers fatality can make the pandemic go away. It can open things up, but everone would still have a mask, because you could still spread the virus

100% agree, incentives for vaccination are what will get people to roll up their sleeves. This headline relies on clickbait to attract people, it's in no way made to "inform". It's more detrimental than anything.

I mean, if your population is vaccinated, why do you need to wait for other countries?

And even if you need to wait for other countries, why not just close your borders to them until they are vaccinated? These claims don't make much sense... Although she is right when she says "years" because in a year (completing 2 years of pandemic) we will probably still have a few restrictions, but I don't expect it to be much longer than that.

It doesn't only lower fatality, it considerably lowers hospitalization rates, which is the actual greater benefit.

What you described is every other disease. The flu vaccine is less effective but can prevent death and hospitalization yet our society is functioning...

This is all expected. The fact that anyone thinks life as it was would return soon is insane.

Check worldwide case numbers and you’ll see the bigger picture. Cases are still high (with some parts of Europe entering a third wave), deaths are still higher than they were during the first 6 months of the pandemic, the vaccine doesn’t prevent transmission of the virus.

I saw a post on LiveNation’s account yesterday about the boyband Westlife adding a second date to their tour at Wembley Stadium THIS AUGUST and I laughed so hard. It’s absolutely ridiculous to imagine that will happen considering the UK has said younger adults would be offered the jab from late July of this year.

I urge you to read more reports and facts before jumping into conclusions. I think we are still a good 12-15 months away from having some sense of freedom but still adhering to rules like face masks, some distancing, smaller groups, etc.

Also, don’t forget about two major factors:

1. Mutations may require booster shots for every type of vaccine. We already know some of those are in development.

2. The duration of protection from the vaccine is currently unknown. 3 months is confirmed, but not much more data about longer periods is available. This may be an annual (booster) shot which will prove even more difficult to keep up with for most governments.

How lucky are we to waste our good years inside doing nothing.

Eh if this were the 1940's or 1960's a lot of us would be killed on a battlefield. Most generations have big social crises that they live through. Honestly, compared to the way it was before, we're kinda lucky.
