Lady Gaga Says She Can Make a Better Song than Bad Romance for ARTPOP!

Only to those who are stuck in the mindset of it being her best song. As you can clearly see, to a lot of fans believe there are several songs better than BR, and I agree with them.

What I will say though is the fashion, direction, etc. of that video were absolutely amazing. It all flowed really well and was very cohesive. It was literally flaw-free. BR had such a massive -and what seemed to be effortless- impact (though I think BTW had a bigger impact but that's my personal opinion). That's the only thing she's going to have to 'top' tbh, not her songwriting or singing, because in that regard she's topped BR several times already.

but what she needs to do with the lead ARTPOP single is make a song with bad romance's status. i am not saying make a song with the structure of bad romance. born this way did not make people go "wow this is so different than alejandro. gaga is so different and she is here to stay". bad romance cemented her status as an artist. the lead single of AP i hope will make people go "wow i love her she is amazing. this song is so different". with born this way all it got was "sounds like express yourself" and that is not surpassing the song bad romance.

Well, I'll have to listen to ARTPOP and see the singles' impact on global mass culture before confirming that. But I really hope she can do it :)

Yeah well the Express Yourself comparisons both hindered her and helped her by giving her more promotion. Ultimately I do think it crippled the rest of the era slightly, it was like a dark cloud that followed her everywhere after that.

I don't think it sounded like EY that much, however some people swear they're almost the same song. It's just opinion. I heard BTW for the first time and thought "wow, she's come back with something completely new" -which she had. I don't know about anyone else but when I heard BTW for the first time I was scared. Scared because it was totally different (inb4 people say it was a throwback to the 80s) and I was worried that she was going to damage herself in some way.. I dunno. I was scared of the unknown, I guess I didn't feel like I was in the safe Gaga comfort-zone that she had created prior to that where every single went number due to being radio friendly (which was also a time when the GP were all on the Gaga bandwagon).

But being scared is good. It usually means she's doing something different. And when the lead single for ARTPOP is released I will be scared again, but I'm sure I'll love the adrenaline rush ;)

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think it depends on how the individual perceives it to be; I thought BTW was completely different, but others thought it was nothing special/ an Express Yourself clone/ another boring Gaga single/ or what have you. The same applies to BR, and will also apply to ARTPOP's singles and all of her future work. Don't worry, I'm sure ARTPOP will not disappoint!

Bad Romance is flawless VISUALLY. On record, she's recorded much better before and after it.

Poker Face, Government Hooker, Scheiße, Heavy Metal Lover, The Edge of Glory are all better songs.

Bad Romance is a prime example of not needing a great song to have a hit. What I'd like from ARTPOP is material that is as great as Scheiße, TEOG etc, but as visually striking as BR. It was such an effortless hit too. Like she released the video and sat back and watched the cheques roll in. BTW was too promo heavy.

TEOG would have scalped BR's wig had it come with a proper video.
