EU Regulator: Oxford AZ Vaccine Safe and Effective

"The European Union's medicines agency has said the Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine is "safe and effective" to use following an investigation into reports of blood clots in a small number of recipients.

The decision by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) comes after more than a dozen European countries - including Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, France and Sweden - halted the vaccine's rollout over fears regarding the claims.

The EMA said the benefits outweigh the risks - and the vaccine is not linked to an increase in blood clots."

Obviously, but i feel like a lot of damage has been made.

In Portugal people were already weary of the oxford Astra vaccine, and now that feeling just got stronger. Just seen a tweet of a girl in charge of setting the vaccination dates and calling people complaining that in 40 calls more than half said that they didn't want it if it was the oxf astra vaccine

But there were 17 million vaccines administrated and only 40 people reported blood clots, which is about the same percentage as the other vaccines, which indicates that blood clots have nothing to do with the vaccine, and probably are just a human thing in general.

For example, cancer doesn't always have a reason to develop, many times it's just due to deregulation of cell functions due to aging deterioration. Maybe blood cloths are like this as well.

 

Either way, even if it was caused by the vaccine, with such a low percentage of correlation (~0,000002%), the risks are not significant when compared to the benefits. For comparison the mortality rate for covid is 2-4%, exponentially increasing with age, not even mentioning the hospitalization rates, which cause many other deaths by overwhelming the healthcare systems.

This is what propaganda does to you. If you're offered a vaccine, you accept it. It doesn't matter where it comes from (obviously you won't accept it from a junkie in the street but you get what I mean), it works and it is safe.

Nice to see after users in this very thread were gloating about the news that the vaccine was suspended in the EU, saying they felt vindicated in their reckless tarnishing of the COVID-19 vaccine. 

Please y’all, get vaccinated when it’s your turn — the best vaccine is the one that is offered to you first so please put on a brave face, get your shot, and help end this nightmare.

I totally agree and feel like this decision was very politically motivated. At least in a country like Portugal where we didnt even have any of those cases, and we usually act after what the eu regulators say.

The vaccine is super important right now and its unfortunate how things like this and patents are getting in the way of protecting people from hospitalization or even infection as a whole

This was always a political move for Europe to deflect their own failings which has led to a slow rollout, and using the AZ as a scapegoat for that (Not to mention the fact that its co-invented and manufactured in the UK) gave them a great opportunity. Quite pathetic really.

This goes all the way back to conservative people and the like assuring the population there would be some kind of scenario in which people would magically cure themselves due to being in contact with each other (??) despite ignoring the fact it takes a while for that to be possible and in the meantime, thousands could die. But in their interest to keep it all open and for the businesses not to spend more money treating their employees like fellow human beings, now that there's a chance to actually solve the issue, people don't believe it anymore. It makes me so angry.
