The Grammys putting Beyoncé in a box

out of her 28 awards which led her to breaking the record, she only has 1 in the 4 major categories.

of course she should be grateful but it does feel like an act of othering in a way, cause the way they set her aside in the urban categories which she has no competition in cause she’s seen as the greatest feels racially motivated and the give-her-everything-R&B factor looks like a cover up to them not letting her get any of the general field awards

I don't want to sound rude but this is kinda typical of Beyoncé fans...

In the same post you say she broke record and you say the Grammy's are racists

I mean both of them can exist in the same time.

Lana actually writes her music and doesn’t have a single Grammy at all despite heavy critical acclaim

AOTY recipients in the last decade:

2020 - Taylor Swift

2019 - Billie Eilish

2018 - Kacey Musgraves

2017 - Bruno Mars

2016 - Adele

2015 - Taylor Swift

2014 - Beck

2013 - Daft Punk

2012 - Mumford & Sons

2011 - Adele

2010 - Arcade Fire

I have to laugh. Rap, Hip-hop, and R&B are completely integrated into the American mainstream (much to many of your disappointments, i know) but still not allowed any mainstream prestige.

Ironically, the 90’s and 80’s had more black artists with AOTY’s, but, considering this decade gave us Donald Trump, maybe I’m not so surprised.

Does make you wonder how Bruno managed to slip through the net, doesn't it? Not a good look on the Recording Academy

because he makes pop music. if he made hiphop or rnb it would be a completely different story.

It's ridiculous at this point that albums like Beyonce & Lemonade were mostly regulated to genre catagories or smaller ones like Best Surround Sound. Those were huge albums in every sense, yet we got Taylor Swift with three AOTYs, and new people like Billlie walking around with one, as well as Bruno winning for all-bops-but-little-substance albums like 24K Magic. I don't even dislike all three of those artists, but it's very weird and sus when you think about it. You can say, "well, she didn't write those albums, grammy's prefer songwriters." But what's the excuse for why Kendrick was shut out? It all follows a very familar pattern.

Bruno isn't black though.

Why has to be everything in the US about race?

The United States (and much of Latin America) was founded on a system that relied on the idea of race and hierarchical racial classes.  Are you European? Maybe this isn’t a problem for you, but this is the reality of the Americas. It’s the reason the United States, despite being the most wealthy country on earth, can’t have standard social programs that exist in most European countries.

that’s like asking why evening in Indian has to do with class. Some things are fundamental and pervasive in certain cultures, and racism is one of them in the US.
