I don’t know the details, but “secret” committees of industry honchos and artists are given the power to decide who is nominated in all of the categories. The Weeknd and other artists feel as though there’s racial bias, and money involved. He recently said he doesn’t want his label submitting his work anymore. He’s definitely not alone in this regard, and it’s possible Gaga might share some of that concern. She’s made it clear that plans on being more active and vocal about racial inequalities.
