Italy Going Back To Strict Lockdown On Monday, March 15 2021

Italians rushed to parks, central shopping streets and hair salons before most of the country heads back into lockdown Monday to try to curb a surge in coronavirus cases.

Warm temperatures and sunny weather pushed people outside for picnics, a tradition for Easter Monday, which falls during the new lockdown on April 5. Many young people gathered without masks for a last aperitivo, prompting police to issue 1,338 fines on Friday.

Prime Minister Mario Draghi pushed for the new lockdown because infections are running at three-month highs and the country’s vaccine program has faced a spotty rollout. Italy, the European epicenter of the initial outbreak a year ago, has suffered more than 100,000 deaths, the most in Europe after the U.K.

Draghi’s cabinet approved the new restrictions Friday, requiring schools, stores and restaurants to close in high-risk “red-zone” regions.

I think someone may have had a bit much to drink? :poot: hope you're ok sis. I've restricted their posting abilities for 24 hours though just so there isn't a huge mess to clean up.

It's so weird to see this number attached to bringing back strict lockdown policies when the US is nearly at 600,000 and we're excited for concerts, theme parks, etc :toofunny:

Italian vaccination is progressing at the same rate as the EU average (about 6-7% of people vaccinated). The EU has contracted adequate quantities of vaccines, but there are serious delays in delivery. In addition, more and more countries have recently been concerned about the possible serious side effects of AstraZeneca, so vaccinations with AZ a lot of countrys have been suspended.
