WTF happened to Madonna

I’m rediscovering her music right now after taking a break...I’m watching videos from Ray Of Light and listening to a lot of ROL and Music....she was so grown and classy! So introspective and putting out really meaningful works of art! I think it’s great to put out fun dance albums as well, but I feel that after Confession she really went downhill. I almost feel that she sold out, I mean maybe she didn’t that’s just my opinion. But how does she go from this...

to....

AND LET ME JUST PUT OUT A DISCLAIMER!!!

ive watched the hard candy tour and it is a great tour! Maybe one of her best! I’m more so talking about the actual music from the albums and the image she was portraying. IMO MDNA is even worse than Hard Candy. Idk guys....what happened to her?
Not judging if you like this side of her, I enjoy some of it, and I can pick out some songs from her last few eras that I genuinely enjoy. But to me, it’s just not the same

Bonkers

My theory is she saw Miley Cyrus get all that attention at the VMA's that awful year and saw all the chatter and obsession and said, "ME ME ME ME.  Me get attention.  Me have not shame.  MMEEEEE!"

But she missed the trend a bit and it wasn't as authentic as Miley's trainwreck.

Anyway, :vegas:

I think MDNA is where it started to go downhill, I think Hard Candy was still “okay”

Hard Candy isn't bad tbh. It got so much of unnecessary hate imho.

I think Madonna just losing touch is all. At least when she moved to interscope, non of her albums during her tenure there are quality records. She just put out an album so she can tour.

she made music that was trendy during Hard Candy and MDNA. Rebel Heart sounds mature though, and for Madame X i cant say a lot since that album is not pop enough for me to listen from start to finish.

Hard Candy is a solid album, though I can see why fans mark it a the “beginning of the end.” It’s the first album where she’s following the trends rather than leading them. Still, it has the Madonna trademark that the following album misses

I agree! Although with RH there was a duality, a more mature classier side of Madonna VS the HC MDNA side of her. Madam X is definitly a step in the right direction. But it’s still not the same. I just feel she’s trying to recreate her past

COATF was her peak artistically and creatively but up to that point she already had a 23 year career in which she reinvented herself with every album. All artists will inevitably decline when you get older and still make music. Madame X was a step in the right direction imo in terms of visuals and themes she was exploring. But at this point she is in her sixties and has nothing left to prove tbh. The fact that she is still alive and making music and touring is amazing. So yea she declined in her fifties but she still outlived some of her peers and has had a longer career than most. Being at the top of your game for 20+ plus years is still remarkable.

Idk Madame X was pretty great, I really don’t get how one can say she sold out with that unless they only heard the four kinda trendy sounding songs? The album was ambitious, eclectic, experimental, mostly very un-commercial sounding. The bold and creative visuals were there, the message and theme and defined concept were there, something she hadn’t done properly since COADF. But that’s just my opinion. She was definitely very trend-hoppy during the Hard Candy to Rebel Heart period.

tbh i feel like madame x is maybe the most "madonna" album shes put out in years. sure the production is questionable at times, but its undeniably bold, brave, and mature. the themes and political commentary on it are amazinggg
